To Teak and/or LizziLou: Autoimmune Question

by WhatIsIt1977, Jan 30, 2009 05:22PM
Hey Teak and LizzieLou,

In this post below:

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/740954

JeanClaude said that an autoimmune disease does not mean that your 3 month negative is conclusive.  I have Celiac Disease, and autoimmune disease.

Is JeanClaude right?  Do I need to worry that my test was not conclusive because I have an autoimmune disease?

If he is wrong, I can't believe he would post it and scare people like that!

I'll clear this up for you quickly.  The very very very SMALL % of people that are recommended to test past the 3 month mark are NOT due to an "autoimmune" disease like you have (or any other for that matter).

It refers to people whose immune systems are SEVERELY compromised ("immunosuppressed", which is totally different from an autoimmune disease).  This would be, for example...a person who has had an organ transplant who is taking anti-rejection meds, someone who has advanced/aggressive cancer, such as leukemia, who basically has no immune system, and someone who is on chemotherapy, again, which lowers the immune system dramatically.

Autoimmune disorders, such as Celiac Sprue, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc etc etc do NOT fall into this category whatsoever.  Two totally different animals.  A person with an autoimmune disorder can rely on a 3 month test result being totally conclusive, just like everyone else.

To: Thank you NurseGirl6572
Thank you so much.

I am doing my best to move on and know that I will surely get there.  You, Teak and Lizzie all help in the process and thank you all for that.

I wish people like JeanClaude would post the real truths and not bogus posts like the thread I attached above.  It makes you question everything.

Once I take my 6 month in March, I will be able to move on for sure.  Crossing my fingers that my result will remain consistent with my last four results.

Thank you so much and have a nice night!
