Type of testing and internet service

Hello everybody,
After 19 days of my exposure of unprotected anal sex (one episode) i got tested twice, the first time was blood withdrawn and urine test for HIV and the result came negative, I went to Dr specialist for STD and he said I  cant trust this result from my previous , and i need to take another test at his clinic, so he gave me a quick test, took blood from my finger tip  and the result came back in 15 minutes negative. I called another service and they told me to throw away the 2 tests I had and to take DNA because it is very accurate even after 72 hours? I did take that and I am waiting for the result. I am really confused and don't know what to believe, is it business based only! the anxiety is getting the best out of me and need advise please.

If your WB was negative, then you are negative, and that is confirmed by the PCR, you shouldnt worry, antibody test does have a false positive rate from 0,5%-2% so you were one of those unlucky guys who got a false positive, just take the 6 week and the 3 month test to be extra sure, but the PCR would have picked up the virus if you were positive,, and you arent, so try to remain negative always use condoms.

If you want some reasurance from the experts, ask the Drs. here.

Good luck

Update,
I just got the result from P24 and Wb and came back negative, the told me that ELISA was False-Positive test. I will do the 6 weeks and follow up again at 12 weeks test. Today will be 40 days post exposure, to get peace of mind, i will test this week end at well.
Thanks for every body for the support. my experience in this forum is that the regardless of the result positive or negative, what is important is that you find people to support you and get the right knowledge to plan your life accordingly.
Any advise ?
Thanks to all

Forget all of this early testing, its worthless really. Go in at 12 weeks for a single ELISA or rapid test. That test is all you need, then go from there with whatever your result is. Until then I suggest maybe seeing a therapist for some talk therapy and meds to keep your mind ok unitl the 3 month test.

What is P24 is used for? is it part of Wb test? when the Wb is done, does is include P24?and what is the typical or average window for antibodies to develop?

Thanks

What do you think of the result of ELISIA and Wb? ELISIA is Positive and Wb is negative? what do i need to do to confirm the result?

Thanks

A P24 is of no use after 3 weeks. DNA test are not diagnostic test and are not approved in diagnosing someone that may have had an exposure.

It is 29 days after exposure.
At 19 days of exposure i tested ELISIA and Quick Clearview HIV1/2 and both came back negative, but it was so soon.
My question is, The DNA looks for HIV1 only, not 2, also why they ask me to do another Wb P25 if the first one was good enough?
Thank you

DNA negative combined with a negative WB would appear to mean you dont have HIV. False positives on ELISA do happen, thats why you must have BOTH a positive ELISA AND a positive WB in order to be diagnosed with HIV.

How long after exposure were these tests?

Update.
The DNA test for HIV 1 came negative
The Elisia for antibodies came back reactive (positive)
Wb came back Negative.
Now I did specific Wb for P25 to confirm.
I am waiting for P25 result which will be tomorrow.
What is the difference of P25 and other P tests like P65, P55,P51,P31,P24,P18?
Thanks for your help

3 months is conclusive and an ELISA test would pick up HIV2.

They told me that they are not concern about HIV1 since Wb came negative and DNA negative for it.
My understanding is that they DNA came back negative for VIV1/2 but antibodies came reactive, they they confirm with Wb for HIV1 only and came back negative, that leaves HIV2.
thanks

Frankly, your DNA PCR test which looks for virus itself is negative. Very GOOD sign
2. and ELISA without WB confirmation is considered negative.
3. HIV 2 is very uncommon is USA
4. I dont how people that tested you eliminated chance of HIV 1 cause the window period is 3 months, they must know better about their own test.
I hope Teak/ECN/Brad or someone can correct me if i am wrong.

Therefore the probability is in your favour....

I would like to ask you please what are my chances this can be positive? or can it be false positive?

Yes, Western Blot is used for confirmation only when ELISA is positive. Its more expensive and more specific.

Is ELISA and Wb for antibodies? which one is more accurate? I just took Wb for HIV2 only and waiting for the result.
Thanks

The values from gp160 to p18 are results from Western Blot. so WB was negative.

Since in the antibody test they state index value that means they used ELISA and it was reactive. I know that they give ELISA positive and WB negative as HIV negative test result. As far as HIV 2 goes its 1000 times less prevalent is USA compared to HIV 1, less than 1000 cases in the whole country and your DNA PCR test is negative, which is good news. I think you should re-take the test in a 2-3 weeks.

thank you very much for getting back to me, this is really confusing for me. Here are the detail of the test:
HIV DNA PCR : HIV-1 DNA not retected
HIV 1/O/2 Abs - Index Value 1.96
HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual Abnormal repeatedly reactive.
HIV Abs/Wb Negative
Also they provide me with these values (which i don't know what they mean)
gp 160 Ab  Absent
gb120  ab absent
p65 ab absent
p55 ab absent
p51 ab absent
gp41 ab absent
gp 40 ab absent
p31 ab absent
p24 ab absent
p18 ab absent
I really don't understand what that suppose to mean, but they told me that it is possible that I have HIV2? Is that true! PLease help, I did Wb for HIV2 and waiting for the reslut in 3 days.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks

DNA 1/0/2 was negative and antibody came back positive? what kind of antibody test was this? Rapid or Elisa? Rapid test can give some (2%) positives, and Elisa is also highly sensitive therefore they use Western Blot to confirm. Western Blot should look for both HIV 1/2 if it is approved for them. In short Elisa positive and WB negative means HIV negative. Did they say "their" WB cant detect HIV2?

The test for DNA 1/O/2 came back negative, the antobodies came back positive, then did confirmation for VIH1 with Wb, the result came back negative, the only option they say is HIV2? is that possible? or what could be this conlict? Please help

Thats the reason why PCR DNA is not used as a diagnostic test, it has an 8% rate of false positives, your can be one of those, if your condom didnt broke then your PCR is defetenvly a false positive, and it shouldnt have been done in the first place, try to relax test again for antibodies in 2 weeks for a 95% accurate result and then at 3 months for a conclusive, About the HIV 2 issue dont worry about it,

Your 29 day test is 85% accurate

Good luck
