Understanding HIV results

Hello,

I was not sexually active for past 8 months, but i just got myself tested for HIV via tsts.org. got my results today. and they are negative. i need help understanding why they did not do western blot test.

Test Name:

HIV-1
HIV-1 Antibody by Enzyme immunoassay (EIA) with Reflex to Western Blot Confirmation (NY)

Results:
HIV-1 Ab = non-reactive
HIV Western Blot = n/a

Main Result = Negative

I was under this impression they do both Hiv and WB test. can anyone explain.

Thanks in advance

They only do a western blot test if you have a positive on the elisa then they confirm it with the western blot
sometimes they will do an elisa 2 times before the wb
look your negative dont worry ok

You are negative.

They only do a WB if the antibody test is reactive (positive)

Congrats!!!!

The first test is done because it is really sensitive (though may pick up other vross reacting proteins)
The second test is done (if the fiest test ws reactive) because it is really specific (it won't pick up cross reacting proteins).
