Unprotected vaginal sex once. 28 days negative.

Hi Dr. HHH,

I had unprotected sex once on 14th Jan 09(don't remember the exact date). It was with a CSW in india. I was drunk. It lasted about 20 minutes.

Around 27 Jan I had a cold and by 31 Jan I had 2 swollen lymph nodes on my neck(one behind the ear and one in cervical area). I did not have fever or a noticable sore throat.

I got very concerned and went to a GP and told him about the encounter. He ordered a test for RPR and HIV apart from a CBP and urine examination. The HIV and RPR came out negative and all other tests were normal. In the blood smear the comment was 'occasional reactive lymphocytes'. The doctor put me on Augmentin and within a week the swollen lymphs went down. But towards the end of the week I had a generalized itch with no noticeable rash along with sweaty palms and soles. After a while my palms started to peel skin (This happened to me sometimes in childhood).  I am wishing this is out of anxiety.

I took another HIV test on Feb 11th and it came back negative. One the same day I asked the doc for a Qualitative PCR test whose results are yet to some. I am still scared about being in seroconversion. What are my odds of having HIV?

Scared

No need to spend the money and test at 6 weeks, 3 months...12 weeks is conclusive.

Hi,
Sorry, I did not know that Dr HHH could only be reached on the paid one. Now I know.

In any case, the result of my PCR test came undetectable. I hope this combined with the ELISA negative on the same day gives me a good assurance. I will get retested at 6 and 12 weeks.

This is not the Dr's site, you wil have to pay $15 to post a question to the Dr's in the Experts form.
Free advice...Any unprotected encounter is a risk and you would have to test at 3 months for a conclusive result. I can't tell you odds because you never know who does or doesn't have HIV.
