Very worry plase help.

Very worry plase help.

Hi, i am a male 21 yearsl old. i am very worry, because i think i was expose to HIV or some others STD,s.. what happen, i was drinking with some friends, and one of then call a sexual worker. what i did, i was fingering her with 2 of my fingers. like 2 minutes later she make me oral sex (with condom) no more than 3 or 4 minutes, because she told me that condom had a hole, and she can not continue. i washed my hands very quickly  with soup, and than my penis. a minute later, i saw a very small fresh cut in one of my fingers(no the ones that i was using with her this finger was from my other hand) the fingers that i used with her were perfect not cuts no anything. finally i took a bath. (OH I AM, VERY SURE THAT CUT WAS BECASUE, I HAD DRY BLOOD IN THE FINGER FROM A INJURY AND WHEN I WAS WASHING MY HANDS THE DRY BLOOD CAME OFF)

my concern is i was in risk becasue, maybe the condom was broke or liquid from my hand could go in to the cut during when i was washing my hands.

i went and i got tested after 18 days for averything in the clinic of my school, but not for Hepatitis B an C. thanks God all was negative. one Dr, told me i was not really in Risk, but other Told me i have to wait 3 or 6 months for HIV. My question is, i was in risk and should i get tested againg at 3 and 6 months, also for Hepatitis B and C.  Plase  Dr. answer My questions. i am very sad becasue of this. i would really need all your opinion about this.

I agree with the doctor who exmained you, that the risk of HIV from thee exposure you describe is low.  Most likely your partner wasn't infected, and even if she was, and even with no condom use, the risk of HIV infection is only about 1 in 1000 episodes of unprotected vaginal sex.  Even with a fresh cut on a finger, the risk isn't much higher; HIV has never been shown to be sexually transmitted in that fashion.  If you remain concerned, however, you can be tested for HIV and viral hepatitis B anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months after the exposure.  (Don't worry about hepatitis C, which is rarely sexually transmitted, if ever.)

Bottom line:  Relax.  You probably aren't infected.  Get tested at 3 months, but don't lose sleep over it in the meantime.

Good luck-- HHH, MD

Hi tarangas. I'm pretty sure the doctor will tell you getting oral sex was extremely low risk, with or without a condom. Also, you won't catch anything while washing your hands. Also, the fact she stopped when she noticed a hole probably says she is ok. She would be at more risk from you than you from her.

I'm posting here as a follow-up because I'm trying not to block anyone else from posting.

I was in a similar situation about 2 months ago, where I was fingering a woman but noticed a small cut on the same finger the next day. The doctor said nothing to worry about. In one of the posts in the FAQs I got a little anxious when HHH says that it probably could happen that HIV be transmitted this way, even though it has never been recorded, due to the inefficiency of transmission. However, a zero risk was given to my event. I'm a little puzzled as to how something that could happen (but hasn't yet been known to) can have zero risk.

Anyway, I had a test done at 47 days. Rapid oral swab came back negative. Is this result as good as a regular blood test?

Thank you for you comment. you din'd wait until 3 months or 6 for you was okay only more than a month. also it is true that no one ever got hiv  from a receving oral sex or fingering. what make me worry was the Dr, say to me that i have to wait 6 months.

You need not wait 6 months. (a terrible old standard...and the CDC only recommends it because somewhere somehow there is that one person out there that only seroconverts in 6 months.  But that is EXTREMELY rare). As far as HIV is concerned, 3 months proves to be a viable source (99.9999%)  Even 6-8 weeks is approx. 95% accurate.  Don't get frightened. Your risk is a very low risk concerning oral sex.
As far as the fingering was concerned..I had an extremely hard time following your concern...and what really happened. You need to elaborate more...and please be more careful with the wording.

Good Luck...I hope everything works out for you.

How does risk of a cut finger jump from zero risk to "not much higher" than 1 in 1000? Thanks!

I think he may have missed that the original poster didn't have unprotected sex; just manual contact and protected oral. That figure refers to unprotected vaginal intercourse, which this poster didn't have.

Thanks, monkeyflower. I noticed that, but the doctor says that "Even with a fresh cut on a finger, the risk isn't much higher;" Is that fingering with a fresh cut has a risk higher than 1 in 1000? Just wondering, because I was told it was zero when I did it... Thanks!

MF:  Yes, I did miss the protected/unprotected part.

Lad:  Please, please, please, for the umpteenth time (admittedly, mostly on the STD forum):  Do not read so much into apparent variations in advice from one thread to the next!  Most of the time I am typing as fast as my fingers can go and spitting out a quick reply intended only for the person who asked the question.  Usually I do not reflect on how the details compare with my responses to other questions.  In this case, I was thinking 1 in 1000 for vaginal sex, and that the fingering (with possible cut) did not raise that to any higher level.  The reason it doesn't raise is is that fingering (even with cut) is zero risk.
