Western Blot vs. Elisa

by ConvincedOne, Oct 13, 2007 08:40AM
Is one more sensitive than the other. For example can i have a negative Elisa but positive Wester Blot? Does one test show more detailed information than the other?
Thank you

So is it possible the the western blot might be more sensitive?

Please don't answer if you don't have clue what you're talking about. From what  i found Western blot is less sensitive but more specific, that is, one that has a lower rate of producing a false-positive result.

I believe your indication to be correct.  Western Blot is used to back up a positve Elisa.  With out testing positive on a western blot, you are not considered "positive".  By no means an expert...but thats what I've picked up through the numerous threads I've read.
