If you believe you have been exposed to HIV and want help to judge your risk, would like advice about HIV testing, or have questions about the effectiveness of condoms or risks associated with specific sexual practices, this is the site for you.
See you are still concerned. I understand, no matter how remote the chances of having contracted HIV are, it can still be hard to think about.
Now, to answer your question: go see a doctor and ask if your lymph nodes are enlarged. Can you even say with any certainty that what you are feeling in your jaw are your lymph nodes? I know I couldn't.
If you can't do that, know this: primary HIV infection, if it causes any lymph node enlargement, will do so in a generalized manner. This means, of course, that every one of your lymph nodes will be enlarged, not just one or two pairs of them.
The worst, and I mean worst, thing you could possibly do you are doing right now: obsessing on symptoms. You've read something about lymph nodes and HIV, and now you think your nodes are enlarged. They will soon be if you continue to poke and prod at them - they don't like that.
No one here can help you diagnose enlarged lymph nodes. If you are really worried about it, you should see a doctor and see what he or she thinks.
Good luck with your anxiety, and welcome to the forums. Please let me know if I can help, even if it is simply lending an ear.
That doesn't answer my question.
I'm not asking for my nodes to be diagnosed as enlarged or not. I am simply wondering what 'enlarged' nodes refers to and is swollen and enlarged used in the same term?
Thank you for your advice but it isn't what I am in search of-I've already had enough and I already know I am taking my second test next week for peace of mind. This is just a general enquiry as I am feeling slightly confused by the definitions. X
P-S Mine is generalized, groin, neck, underarms/breasts, backs of knees and also in my sides!!!!
You seem convinced you have HIV for some incomprehensible reason. You don't. Get tested if it makes you feel better, it'll be negative, and then let it go. If you can't let it go, get counseling.
And stop feeling around for lymph nodes. Unless your DOCTOR tells you they're enlarged, they aren't. Leave 'em alone.
Oh, I think I understand what you are asking now, and I apologize if I didn't understand before. Can't help with the signs of enlarged lymph nodes. Sorry. But, good luck on your test, though, as you seem to indicate, doesn't sound like you'll need much luck ;-).
I knew what you were asking. I also know you say you're over the HIV thing. But the very fact you posted your question on this forum and are worried about having what you think might be enlarged lymph nodes certainly suggests otherwise. Quit poking around at your lymph nodes. I'm sure they're fine; just leave 'em alone. If you want to know if they're enlarged, see your doctor.
Btw, xhost gave you truly *excellent* advice, from someone who's been there. I hope you will take it in the spirit it was intended, and seek counseling.
if they're swollen and tender, you may have some sort of viral or bacterial infection. if they don't go down after two weeks, you need to see your doctor. stop poking them, tho!
They have gone down now. Well sort of...Can't really be bothered with explaining anymore, lol.
Still didn't have my test as of yet but my extreme anxiety is no longer present. I just hope I don't get a nasty shock with a positive result. I'll cross that bridge when/if it comes to it. x
OK,
So I don't think I have HIV,
But have a lymph node question. Only ONE of my lypmph nodes is 'enlarged': I can feel it, it hurts a bit in my armpit.
I don't have a fever or any boils etc. It has been enlarged for a week now, having been most notable at first, and now really jsut pea sized.

I'm not convinced I have HIV!!! I have let that one go now but I am getting a test next week just so I can have it confirmed and put it behind me...
I am simply asking a question, not seeking individual advice!!!

Good luck with everything. You'll be fine.
