Hi, I've traversed the posts here and have found many answers to my questions but still have a lot of uncertainty about window periods for testing.
Basically, I am a bisexual male (21) with a long term (15 months) girlfriend whom I love more than even my own life.
We were both tested before getting together for everything including HIV
which was all negative. We have been completely faithful to one-another apart from one single incident recently, 5 days ago, I had unprotected anal(with ejaculation
) and got tested the day following the incident (for HIV). His status both times was negative. Will 3 weeks be enough time to overlap the window periods of HIV (assuming I do DUO or Standard), syphillis (syphilis), gonorrhoea and chlamydia?
It is important for me to know as I do not wish to jeopardise the health of my partner. Any help WILL be appreciated.
Getting a duo after 3 weeks would be a good idea. The Antibodies part would certainly reveal nothin...The P 24 might.. if incase your gay partner was in a window period.
You are certainly @ a risk of contracting HIV.. remember your partner didn't know your status and still had unprotected anal with you. He might be doing the same with other guys / girls as well. Merely trusting his words won't suffice. Tell your female partner about the risk before you have even protected sex with her again. Get tested on or after 3 months to eliminate all possibilities of infection.
As I said earlier on ..If he is in the process of seroconverting he might show negative with both P24 and The antibodies test. I would suggest you get a DNA PCR test after 28th day of exposure, though a few people here might advise you against that. I understand how difficult it would be to wait those agonizing 3 months out before you could finally get a Antibody test.
If you are negative DNA PCR .. theres no way in the world that you could have the virus..
I have since told my partner what happened and we are working together to make things right again. I was completely unable to lie about this and risk possibile exposure to her. I have had several insti-tests and 2 DUOs and just today have finally tested negative 30 days after incident with a DUO test (99.98% effective). We are obviously both consoled with the outcome. I will re-test at 3.5 months for the full 100% conclusivity but we are going to resume sexual relations until then.
As far as DNA PCR tests are concerned, I don't understand why you would recommend one after 28 days when the results can be seen after 10. Why after 28 days did it not follow that I should be recommended a DUO? Was the number you stated just arbitrary or did you get the PCR and DUO tests confused? Either way, none of this is meant to undermine your help, which was great and I thank you for it, I am just curious.
