Whats the verdict now on oral sex?

Hi,

People have been asking me about the risk of HIV from unprotected sex, especially as the giver. I've always been under the impression that it is NO RISK, and after reading a few blogs and websites, I thought of getting a factual opinion from this forum about the TRUE RISK.

This is also because I have been having oral sex alot recently, where I was mainly the INSERTIVE partner, which got me a little worried, especially since:
- I brushed my teeth before exposures( Wounds?)
- I would usually do deepthroat and so would the virus be exposed to the surroundings and die if my mouth was consistently closed up on the penis.
- My last sexual partner had quite a lot of pre-cum although he didn't ejaculate in my mouth.

Could their be a verdict and why are other forums saying otherwide(E.g. some saying that there has been a documented case)

Oral sex is no practical risk for HIV. Reason why you'll see websites that state there is a risk is for the simple reason that science dictates that there is nothing that is 100% risk free. Thus you'll see figures like 99.8% or 1:20,000. In other words no practical risk. Of course bleeding gums can increase the risk so instead of 99.8% it can become 98.1%. Still no practical risk!

I have regular bleeding gums when i brush my teeth(not always though), is that considered poor/ok oral health?

That's why I said extremely poor oral health, like super terrible. And that's such a rarity. That's why we say no risk.

why do other websites state that oral sex can be a risk especially when there are wounds and cuts? Isnt it theoretically possible too?

Please be aware that while oral sex is not a risk for HIV, there is a risk for STD's.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. Apologies, yes, I was the receptive partner. So oral sex has no HIV risk? Should I go for a HIV test?

If you are the insertive partner, that means oral sex is being performed on you.  Clearly, that is not what you have been doing.  You are the receptive partner.

You need extremely poor oral health, like EXTREMELY poor, for oral sex to be even a minimal risk.
