Where do I go from here?

Where do I go from here?

Doctor,

I have posted previously, but want to update you on my situation.

On 6/11 I had very brief (less than 30 sec) unprotected insertive vaginal intercourse with a 22 year old CSW (Las Vegas stripper) of unknown risk.  She was Asian (she said Japanese) and I don't know how long she's been in the US.

Panicked, I convinced an ER doc to proscribe Atripla as PEP (within 48 hours).  I have since tested negative for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.  I have had no HSV2 symptoms to date (I'm on day 16).  I got a PCR DNA HIV test on day 14 and it was negative.

I have stopped taking the PEP b/c of side effects, my negative PCR test, and what I have been told is an overall low risk of HIV.

Here are my questions...

1.  What is your view of my overall risk of HIV given the above information?
2.  How should I feel/think about the negative PCR test at 14 days?  How good a sign is this that I don’t have HIV?
3.  What are my chances of a false negative on this test considering it was at day 14 (I've heard these tests are 99.9% accurate at day 28... but have not found similar stats for 14 days).  The physician at the testing center said it is an incredibly sensitive test even at 14 days and I should feel very good about the result.
4.  What are the chances of a false negative given that I was on PEP until day 13 or 14?
5.  In your opinion, was it wise to stop the PEP in my case?  I just didn't feel like it made sense given what I think is relatively low risk and the potential for serious side effects.
6.  How should I feel about my risk of HSV2 at this point?  What if I still don't have any symptoms after 3 weeks?  Is there any way the Atripla could have blocked the initial symptoms (I think I read that the drugs in atripla are specific to the HIV virus, but I'm not sure).
7.  Lastly, I'm going to do another PCR at 28 days and then the ELISA at 35 days (previously scheduled physical) - if both are negative, how sure can I be that I don't have HIV?

Thank you

These questions were already answered in your previous thread and I see no point in repeating them.  In the last comment in that thread, you wrote "I'm probably just obsessing about every wrinkle and pigment on my penis since I'm scouring it multiple times per day for any signs of lesions..."

I agree. You can be 100% sure right now that you don't have HIV or herpes.  Beyond that, these are questions for your own provider.  You are indeed overreacting in a quite irrational way; it is not normal to be so unwilling or unable to accept the rational truth and the advice you have been given.  If your anxieties continue, you should also ask him or her whether referral to a mental health professions might be wise.  I suggest it out of compassion, not criticism.
