have excessive diarrhea for a month+? Just wondering what some other causes could be. IBS? Other Viral infection? Would these make diarrhea last so long? I've taking prescription anti-diarrheal medication as well as metimucil. Would that stop diarrhea if it was an ARS? Because It sure has hell has not stopped it.
Just curious so I know what to ask my Doc when I get a chance to see him.
The doctor finally told me to stop drinking caffeineCaffeine Caffeine anhydrous Caffeine citrate Caffeine-acetaminophen Caffeine-ergotamine. I thought it was nonsense at first; but as soon as I stopped drinking caffeine (switched to caffeine free diet Coke), the symptoms stopped. The first 20+ years of my life, caffeine gave me no problems. Now, it gives me the runs. Growing old's a *****...
I hope its something so simple. However, I find it hard to believe because that it started as soon as I had the possible expsoure. Maybe its a long-term side effect of PEP which I finished a month ago.
It's a logical (but all-too-common) fallacy to assume a cause-effect relationship between two coincidental events.
Your 'diarrhea' symptom is very likely stress or other non-HIV-related. It would be extraordinarily odd (if not impossible) for diarrhea to be your only ARS-related symptom.
There are umpteen possible explanations. Here's just a few off the top of my head:
IBS
Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn's Disease
Celiac Disease
Wheat/Gluten Allergy
Intestinal Parasite
Colon Cancer
Excess Caffeine Intake
In my own experience, I had chronic diarrhea (albeit fairly mild) for roughly 6 years. Due to another condition I have, I am at risk for and was tested for Celiac Disease, a genetic autoimmune disorder. I was tested for a few other things as well; all were negative.

But it has nothing to do with HIV.
