Worried sick

Hey Guys- Your thoughts on this would be great, I've posted about this before but wanted to get your feelings on my current situation.  About six weeks ago I met a guy off the internet and he came over, we ended up trading oral (no ejaculation) and then I had protected anal receptive sex (no ejaculation).
About a week or so I developed a sore throat, then one day noticed a rash (don't know if it was nerves or not, can that make the skin red and blotchy) that lasted about a day, then developed a white tongue.  My throat became very sore over the next week (more like it was difficult to swallow), and I had one case of diarreah.  I finally went to the doctor during the third week and had myself checked out, had a 99.2 fever, and a red throat, and a slight positive strep test.  Took antibiotics and about three dsys later was feeling better (one morning caughed up phlem with some blood in it once while I was taking the antibiotics).  Also during that time I came in contact with an ex of mine (only been with 2 guys in the past three years) and he did suck me, not to ejaculation.  About a week later he came down with a sore throat and went to the doctor who said it looked very much like strep. He did not test however, gave him some antibiotics and he felt better within a couple days.
I got in contact with the past guy over the weekend and he said he is sure he is clean and the condom did not break and he never got off.  But I am still REALLLY scared, what if I was seroconverting and gave it to my ex!  I want to test, but am terrified! your opinions would be appreciated a lot!

Your only quantifiable risk was receptive oral sex, and believe me when I say that is a very, very, very low risk for HIV. You really have more chance of being the next human on the moon.

You're clearly in the throes of anxiety over this. Have a test anytime now, pick up the inevitable negative result, and move on. Your symptoms came on too soon for them to be caused by HIV. It was strep throat, probably exacerbated by your anxiety.

Bottom line; I'm extremely confident you'll test negative:)

Thanks Dobber, but even with all these symptoms????  I heard that ARS starts in a week, and a sore throat for three weeks!  What else could cause that?

You had a strep throat! 'All these symptoms'?? A low grade fever!

Don't forget it's cold and flu season. That's a far more likely scenario.

But test, please test, unfortunately I know that's the only way you'll be able to put this behind you:)

Wow! Strep Throat has EXACTLY the same symptoms as HIV! Even fever and rash!
I should probably test for it!
Thanks Peekawho!:)

Just to clarify you did not even come close to having a low grade fever.

Average Normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees and it flucuates within a degree or two either side.

Thanks guys you are the best....

Just one quick follow up question, is it normal to have tender glands in your neck during ARS?

From what I heard, the swollen glands/lymph nodes in ARS are painless. You know what I'm going to say now - don't go looking for symptoms. You will drive yourself crazy and it has no bearing on HIV status, whatsoever!
