Worry setting in

Hello,

2 years ago I had an HIV scare in the Far East. I got tested at 4 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks and everything came back negative. At the time I got in the classic worried well state and it took me a long time to trust in the result and believe it.

Flash forward to now and I have a girlfriend who I had unprotected sex with for the first time 2 weeks ago. Yesterday she came down with a sore throat, sweating through the night, aching muscles, cough et. Since then I cannot shake the thought again that the test I had may have been wrong and I have put her at risk.

I know to try and stay off the internet but I found a report from 2014 that states that during Acute infection tests are not highly accurate. http://www.aidsmap.com/Large-US-study-shows-which-HIV-tests-are-most-accurate/page/2812847/

I am struggling to understand now what this means please can someone offer some advice

The last 2 negative results that you had proved that you were conclusively negative. you tested at the 3 month mark and beyond. Provided you did not have any other exposures after that test, i believe you cant give your girlfriend something that you dont have.

I don't mean to be the wet blanket here, but let's not forget your girlfriend. When was the last time SHE was tested? It's very sweet that you don't want to infect her..........but this is a two way street.
Yes that is all fine.

My concern is that the symptoms exhibited by her fell well into line with what I had become aware of previously.

Do I need to retest to confirm that I was in the clear from the first time round.

This has been really eating me up
We cannot rely on symptoms to determine hiv. You have tested and are found to be hiv negative. How about your girlfriend? She the one with the symptoms right? Get her tested.
