amsterdam hiv worry

hello.  im a male. i had a very brief encounter with a sex worker in amsterdam.  oral and vaginal sex with a condom that she supplied.  as far as i know the condom was ok and did not split.  the whole thing must have only lasted 10 minutes if that.  i am unaware of her hiv status. afterwards on removing the condom, i got her vaginal fluids on my hand(which probably everyone does to some extent when removing a condom?) but then the top of penis.  now im really worried beyond belief that potentially hiv infected fluid has entered the top of my penis.

this was only a week and a half ago.  now my girlfriend who i have had sex with since has developed a sore throat, muscle pain, hot sweats, temperature etc a week after we had sex for the first time since amsterdam.  now im freaking out.  i will most probably get tested after the 3 month mark, but until then, it would be great if someone could honestly state accurately my chances of catching anything.

i also would like to know a few things, if anyone know correct answers...

1. how often are amsterdam prostitutes tested?  people claim its a fairly safe environment for stds/hiv etc?
2. are their condoms of standard quality? (i didnt even see it come from a packet!?!)
3. do they use lube on themselves (again i didnt see her apply any, but she was moist and she obviously has to be when having sex all night, so wondered how?!)

basically im worrying about everything, but ultimately hiv and then spreading it on already to my girlfriend.  please help.

That´s the prob, she massaged the fluids into the head of the penis with her hands for around 5 minutes, with no condom on it. Thanks for the good advice. Now that I have the pills, do you recommend not taking them? I actually prefer to continue with the pills, just to be sure. No side effects so far.

You didn't have a risk for the need of PEP. As long as the condom remain covering the head of your penis you were never at risk, doesn't matter how many times you take the condom off and put it back on  Try finding a smaller condom that fits properly and will stay in place.

Hi Teak,

many thanks, yes, actually the chances are small. But i spent about 1 hour with that girl, and as the condom was not keeping itself in place, we removed it 3 or rather 4 times and put it on after that. I´m still kinda worried, but if the PEP doesnt show any side effects so far, it might not be wrong to take it. The problem I see is that I had vaginal fluids on my penis because we put the condom off and on, and there is not much oxygen in between the penis and the condom when we continued afterwards. Furthermore, when having the fluids on my penis, she gave me a handjob without condom and really massaged the fluids into it.

Okay, i have just read on the web that 3% of the female prostitues here have HIV, and aids only transmit every ~ 300th unprotected intercourse, so the chances are 1:10.000 of an infection when having _unprotected_ sex. And somewhat higher when having protected sex, so maybe i really dont need PEP. But I currently feel better takin it.

You didn't have a risk and didn't need PEP.

Hi,
also thanks for the good advice, I am exactly in the same situation. i did the same terrible mistake (just 6 days after you), and now that I look on google i see that an average of 7 % of the prostitutes in amsterdam is positive. we also had protected sex, but when my penis was not hard enough, we removed the condom, she did a handjob again, and then she put the same condom over again ( i dont know if inside out, or outside in). at least my penis was quite full of the lube. this is just 20 hours ago, and i had the same panic. i went to the hospital, there is a "post exposure medicine" that you can take, usually you should take it within 2 hours of exposure (like if a nurse in the hospital has accidently hit a needle), but other sources say it helps also within 24 to 72 hours after exposure (but not in any case). i now have to take pills for 28 days, but okay, i better eat them than having that risk. medicine will cost some hundred euros. i give advice to anone to keep away from the red light district in amsterdam. sure, the girls are very pretty, but think that 7 % has aids, and theres a dozen other deseases, and the attractive prostitues have around 15 men every night, making it around 5000 per year. Year after year. Keep your fingers away from these prostitutes, it´s the worst that you can get.

Vaginal fluids on the hand are not all her fluid but rather minute considering the fluids she has inside of her.  Also, those vaginal fluids have already been exposed to oxygen, HIV needs the proper setting in order to be transmitted, un protected sex provides that setting because there is very little oxygen if any during penetration.

No risk you used a condom, thats why its called protected sex.

Even if some of her fluid touched your penis, it would take a lot of fluid directly into the membranes in the ureathrea to cause transmission. Plus once the virus leaves the body like in the case of her vaginal fluids the virus dies off very rapidly and cant transmit.

The virus is transmitted in an environment like when your pens is inside her and saturated in fluid in an airtight place. And even in the case where people have unprotected sex with HIV+ partners transmission most of the time still does not happen. HIV is very difficult to transmit.

thanks so much for the reply, i was hoping you replied, having seen the help you have been giving others.

im not going to waste your time or get silly about it but can i just ask one question?

how is there no risk at all if her fluids touched my penis, regardless of what happened before, ie using a condom for sex?

1. prostitution in Amsterdam is legal except for street prostitution and yes they are tested regularly.
2. Yes they use latex condoms or poly condoms.
3. more than likely yes.

You were never at risk of contracting HIV from having protected sex.
