. This was a relatively short session, just a few minutes, however I do understand that transmission for the penetrating partner can occur via mucus membranes in the urethra? I've never had a condom
break in this kind of situation before and am very concerned. My penis and the resulting discharge from my partner appeared free from any blood. I've read about PEPs and they carry significant possible (probable?) side-effects, but must be initiated within a 72-hour window. Recommendations, advice, risk? Thanks, James.
I know I don't knows lot yet but I'm learning from what you have said and this web site. I hope I'm not giving out the wrong info because if is

Thanks, everybody! Since it was Saturday I went to my urgent care clinic and after a long talk and a blood test (to be sure my liver was functioning normally), I started PEP that evening. The doc assured me that my chance of infection with no treatment was around .006% and PEP would cut that in half at the least, so odds are definitely in my favor.
I did not realize just how expensive PEP could be. Fortunately, I have great health insurance so only had to pay $30 USD which would otherwise be around $2300 full retail. The pharmacy tech told me that most areas have programs to help subsidize this, but you often have to ask about it and it takes a day or two to process...not ideal when the 72-hour window is shrinking.
So glad I found this helpful and supportive community. Thanks again!
