blood on bandage

blood on bandage

Quick question. I was sitting with my Mom at her hospital room. I was wearing sandals and I fell off to sleep. When I woke up one of my sandals had come off and there was a bandage that had some blood on it stuck to the bottom of my foot. I must have somehow stepped on it during my sleep. I then pulled it off and discarded it.If this was wet blood could I have gotten hiv  as this was stuck to my foot and also could I have gotten something when I pulled the bandage off if I had a cut or damaged cuticle on my hand or finger? Nurses track in and out of other rooms into my Mom's room and this could have come from another patient's room. Thanks.

No you did not have an HIV risk. The virus is deactivated shortly after it is exposed to air and you would need a very large cut for a risk. One where you would be in the hospital for.

Thanks so much. So this situation is no risk even if it was wet blood and even it there had been a small cut on my foot which may have made contact with the blood on the bandage  just a few seconds after it left the other persons body? Would this bandage be considered an enviormental contact? Thanks so much again.
