hi guys. I just went to test at 5 months at a local health department and am waiting for the results. When i got there, though, the nurse told me that i should wait out for another month for an accurate result, and that a negative would give me a false hope. This made me more worried. I've had four different negative tests done, including a DNA PCR at 7 weeks, and antibody tests at 11 weeks and 4 months. I know it's silly to not wait just one month but i had to get tested again. Anyway, should i test again after 6 months or will this test be conclusive?
a. PCR (NAT) tests directly look for the virus in the body, they are highly sensitive and can yield accurate results as early as right after 72 hours of the exposure, how ever after the 28th day DNA PCR IS CONSIDERED TO BE CONCLUSIVE
b. Think about it rationally, if you had the virus in your body it would have been detected in Millions by the DNA PCR since the HIV replicates it self in millions every day and a test at the 7th week is good enough to detect some millions of virus but guess what, it was "undetectable for you, (NOT EVEN ONE VIRUS FOUND?????)
2. Antibody at 11 weeks:
Very indicative, at the 11th week, some one who gets a negative is very unlikely that the result changes further in the matter of two more weeks (13weeks)
3. Antibody at 4 months
Time to party !!!
Negative at the fourth month is "GOLD" standard, even the most conservative agencies would say 3 month's conclusive, you tested at the 4th month had a negative, you can go ahead and retest x no of time in the future, but I guarantee you , your result would be negative
hence, Undetectable NAT + Antibody at 4 months = CONCLUSIVE RESULT
the nurse is behind the times. as everyone else has said, 12-13 wks is considered conclusive, 6-8 wks most show positive results.
you tested multiple Xs negative up to 4 mos. your worrying excessively is right. the nurse is wrong in saying under 6 mos is false hope. BULL, you know what comes after that.
