Hi, I had a needle injury with blood exposure deep injury, hiv patient with viral load 200,000, cd4 210. Started on pep at approx 12 hours. One week later developed macularpapular rash and mouth sores. A viral load was done already after 9 days of pep which was undetectable. Later developed more rashes and mono like symptoms. At 5 weeks had a negative ElisaElisa Elisa/western blot tests for hiv Lyme disease antibody, and viral load was still undetectable less that 47 copies. Finished 5 week course of pep, but still had symptoms of sore throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture, weight loss of 10 lbs, rashes, and oral ulcers. It is now 80 days and I tested ElisaElisa Elisa/western blot tests for hiv Lyme disease antibody negative. My question is since I was on pep I would have to probably wait 6 months for final determination. I am really worried because I was symptomatic during the period. I considered doing a PCR dna, but what is the point, I would still have to be confirmed with elisaElisa Elisa/western blot tests for hiv Lyme disease antibody and western blot. Thanks.
Dear friend sorry to hear regarding your exposure, usually large bore needles are the ones more likely to transmit, further according to statistics 0.3 percent is the probability for needlestick injuries, further you are on pep, my strong feeling is you are most likely fine, also according to cdc, the procedure is 6 weeks,3 months and 6 months, you have already crossed the 6 weeks mark safely and also I am sure your 3 months will be ok as well. Good luck .
