Very, very, very low risk for HIV. Essentially you're looking at a couple of second's exposure at most. HIV is a very difficult virus to transmit, especially from female to male. Your symptoms are quite general and could be due to anxiety as much as anything.
I wouldn't really consider this a serious risk. However, the advice is to test at six weeks. If it's negative, you're in the clear. In most instances, a six week should be confirmed at three months, just to be sure to be sure. As far as I'm concerned you don't need testing at all given the brevity of your exposure. But if you want to follow guidelines test at 6 weeks, then twelve weeks. If you're negative at 6 weeks, consider yourself all but in the clear:)
You will be negative:)
yeah, what dobber said, lol
dude weve been there where your at, we understand how you feel. at least i know what a tough time you are having from this. know this, symptoms do not equal hiv diagnosis... proven time and time again.. you are pretty close to 6 wks now. take a test then and confirm it in 3 mos.
With all due respect to dobber and tony, I'm not trying to tell you that what they said is wrong but a 6 week result changing at the 12th week is next to impossible, you could go ahead and test at the 12th week too, if you want to however a test at the 6th week would not need any further testing
i agree with you totally 6 weeks is proof you dont have hiv. all im doing is stating cdc recommends a 13 wks test as definitive and conclusive. but yes 6 wks is a solid indicator of what 13 wks will be. besides i tested out to 7 mos.
for me. i knew then that my 12 wks test was rock solid, but i have a family and wanted to be 110% sure.lol. by the way mike i think your doing a good job, your quick, and straight to the point. keep up the good work.
Tony,
I'm just passing the torch, when I needed support you guys were there for me and it's time for me to pay back :)
Regards
Mike
Thank you for the respone. After reading the posts on this site I tend to feel a little more at ease. Then I go and read some other web sites and begin freaking out all over again. I will be seeing my reg family doctor this afternoon, not sure if I want to brg up the exposure risk to him, I am in a fairly small town.
As far as testing, can you buy a test that gives you immediate results at a local pharmacy? Can a local facility, hospital, clinic etc give you a test with same day results?
Thanks again
This site has been a great source of comfort
PS Is the fact that I have had no fever a sign for hope or non relavent factor
i believe you should mention your exposure, and your feelings toward confidentiality and also hiv test, wht was your exposure?
The top of the tread is my story
sorry dude, i was away from the computer for a while.
First of all relax, you acquiring the virus over the mentioned incidence is astronomically low, that's only IF and ONLY IF your partner was infected, she could be very well HIV NEGATIVE
Ring up your local HIV/AIDS help line, they'd be in a much better position to help you locating a testing center in your area, if that's difficult try asking for the same in any local hospital, they'd surely help you with the same
Thanks again for the replies. The stress and anxiety was about to drive me insane, so I did as suggested and called a hotline, the gave me the name of a testing center, and I actually stopped and got tested on the way to my doctors appt. Told the doc all of my concerns of exposure and all of my "symptoms"
Told him the lymphs in my neck are swollen... he said nomal size
Told him I had white fluffy stuff on my tongue...he looks normal slight coating fromthe antibiotics I'm on
and that I have an ordinary sinus infection
He told me I have no outward symptoms of HIV and the risk from the incident woulld be very unlikely
Hopefullly the test results will confirm all this
Sorry if the these are not the kind of posts that belong here, but being able to express your thoughts can be very soothing.
