All I can say to you is this:

1. You had protected sex. The condom broke but you realised and pulled out. Your exposure was minimal in HIV terms
2. The average time to seroconversion is 3 weeks. Your test at the end of January is extremely encouraging.
3. I went through the same thing. I kept focussing on my girlfriend's sickness - and believe me the anxiety is a lot worse when you have UNPROTECTED sex with someone else - and I ended up negative at 12 weeks. Your experiencing extreme guilt. That always makes you sicker than you are, and it also magnifies your spouse's sicknesses and you end up relating it all back to HIV. Not good for either of you, believe me.
4. You should test for other STIs too, including Hep B which is more contagious. I'm not sure if you've levelled with your girfriend, and from my experience, I think you're better off not doing so, but that's your call. If you have, tell her to get vaccinated against Hep B.

All that said, your exposure was brief, and I would say you did not become infected with HIV from this incident. Check all the sites, no one, drs., worried wells, butchers bakers candlestick makers have EVER seen HIV transmission via a condom break. It's an extremely fragile virus. And listen to those of us who have been through what you're going through now. You acted responsibly, you wore a condom. You don't have HIV. I'm also fairly certain your condom break was imagined. Condom breakage is a RARE occurence, yet almost everyone on here experienced it. If it happened as frequently as it seems to happen on here, Durex et al would be up to their eyes in lawsuits.

You'll be fine, and so will your girlfriend. Buy her some lozenges for the throat and keep on protecting yourself when you stray:)

Tis the season for the flu...

Your symptoms are not at all indicative of HIV ARS.

Painful joints are related more to age and cold weather than any retrovirus. The 'popping' is the release of nitrogen gas bubbles in the synovial fluid of the joints and is completely benign (my joints pop constantly and have for years, and I'm only 30).

Dobber is correct. Your negative orasure test is highly encouraging. But testing at 6 weeks is prudent. Odds are STRONGLY in your favor.

Your girlfriend's symptoms sound like the flu, but ARS often manifests as a really bad flu. If you remain concerned, maybe you and she should get tested together. Remember, if you're playing on the side, then maybe she is, too... Besides, mutual testing (as a baseline) is a good idea for all couples who want to have unprotected sex together. It helps to prevent 'surprises', like the one kekelow's sister suffered.
