help needed coz im still scared

by nyrvana, May 25, 2008 08:41PM
hi, i am from singapore, last week i went for a anonnymous hiv test, (abbott rapid 1/2), when the consellor gave me the results, i cant help but notice that there are 2 very faint pink lines in the test box but the control line is very dark compared to it. can anyone tell me why is this so, i had sex with a prostitute in thailand (with condom but fingered her) in the last week of june 2007, and did the test on may 20th 2008, i tried to assure myself that if i am positive, the test lines wouldnt be so faint at all, but i am just worried abt if it is supposed to appear at all...

thanks for replying, but im just worrrried about why would there even be faint lines in the test box?

by nyrvana, May 25, 2008 09:07PM
ok, i told myself that the faint lines are there because of my blood that has flowed through the bottom section of the test strip, past the test box and down to the control box.perhaps the test strip has 2 ultra thin lines in the test box thats why positive test always shows up as neat lines and i am sure the test box should be made of really fine cotton material so that a minimal amount of blood is needed. i know im paranoid, ive been really depressed for a few days and trying to googling up how to interpret abbott rapid hiv 1/2 has driven me even crazier, i saw the pdf for orasure rapid and for it even faint lines are considered positive!

Hi, I am from Singapore as well and last Saturday went for AFA test.
You don't need to care about the faint lines or anything. If the test fail, the control box will not even showed up a line which will result in indeterminate test.
I honestly also depressed with the incident that I had. I also trying to google up to know what generation abbott determine rapid test is and whether they use antigen combo...
