Planned Parenthood does not have good info about HIV transmission.

Your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV.

I can imagine you are panicking, but remember your risk is still very low.

As its been 3 months since your exposure, go and find any clinic and take a "4th generation" or "3rd generation" test. You will get a reliable result and can then move forward.

I think its time you started looking at other possibilities.

Other STD's are transmissable through oral sex. HIV is not the only bad guy that causes illness in people after a sexual exposure. Given that your only exposure was oral, its far more likely you have picked up something else.

If your symptoms are still bothering you, I would advise you to get a complete STD screen , and all the other blood tests I mentioned above.

Thank you for responding! I went to planned parenthood I called and asked but she said she didn't know only the lab knew what kinda test it was.. I've tested for all other stds many times everything was good but last time I went I only tested for hiv I haven't had unprotected sex in 5 months.. I'm really freaked out because I feel it's hiv the guy insists that he's clean and won't go to the clinic that makes me think he has it or maybe doesn't know!

Hi nina890,

You seem to have been suffering from illness /malaise in the last couple of months, and understandably you want to know what's causing it.

When you did your 7-week HIV test, what type of test was it? 3rd gen antibody only, or 4th gen combo test? If you dont know, it would be worth calling the test provider to ask. Many authorities say a 4th gen test is pretty much conclusive at 7 weeks... whereas an antibody test is conclusive only at 12 weeks. Having said this, a 7-week negative result even on a 3rd gen test is a good indication of your status; given that the average time to seroconversion from infection is 22-25 days. You are already well past this point.

When you tested for HIV, did you test for all other STD's? Things like HSV1, HSV2, Syph, Chlam, Gon, Candida, etc?
If these tests have come out negative, it may be worth getting tested for other viral pathogens like EBV, CMV, which can cause similar symptoms like headaches, fever, chills, liver pains, etc. These can also be transmitted sexually, even though they are not normally tested for at STD clinics.

Also, a full blood count (CBC), liver enzymes check, CRP and ESR tests can all give a good indication of your general health - they are not diagnostic but they give a good indication of whether your body is fighting some kind of viral or bacterial infection.

Concerning HIV - there is small , theoretical risk in your case - as you say, there are some cases, albeit very few, of transmission from receptive oral sex. This is usually where ejaculation is involved. Many authorities state that brushing teeth before the incident may increase the risk slightly - the reasoning behind this is that open cuts in the mouth facilitate easier transmission - but this is largely hypothetical - there is not a consistent body of evidence to substantiate this.

So, in conclusion, I would 1) find out what HIV test you took and 2) try to get all the tests above done, so in the likely event that we are NOT talking about HIV, at least you can find out whats going on in your body.

Thank you! I don't know what kinda test it was it was a blood test though.. does it matter that I don't know? I'm just freaking out because my body hasn't ever done this before the guy won't go get tested he insists he's clean we've broken up over this I think he's hiding something or has it and doesn't know

Even if you had a risk those have nothing to do with HIV. Think the bruises might be related to low iron, but don't quote me on that.

So even if you had a risk a 7 week test is probably 99% conclusive. You have no need to test/retest.

I tested at 7 weeks how accurate is that? And I'm worried about my low grade fever that comes at night plus my random bruising something isn't right
