I had unprotected sex almost 4 years ago, with a guy originally from Africa. I tested negative on pcr and regular hiv 1 and 2 antibody test, 3 years after the expose. I just wonder what is the chance for me to be infected with some of the rare subtypes and not to be detected form these tests.

I read many of the posts here and I know you don't like it when ppl ask questions after given an answer, but i need to ask this. I read that pcr test is not reliable on its own, but the company that tested me said that this is the way to find out for type o or the other rare ones ( as said im worried for the ones in Africa), because hiv 1/2 sometimes can't detect them. I didnt find any reliable info about this anywhere. Is there a specific test that is reliable for the rare types.?  I don't want to put my partner at risk. I wont keep asking over and over but no one could give me the answers. How do they know when to keep testing you to find this odd types. I want to find out more info. Thanks

you have a negative test result..you need to believe in your tests
go and see a doctor regarding your health concerns..not hiv related

But I recently have the fever like symptoms. I have a sore throat, i actually lost my voice for a few days, i'm not sure if my lymph nodes are swollen but it feels like. I got my voice back but the other symptoms doesn't go away. I am also not taking any medicine to help me feel better. I and I red this article somewhere that is freaking me out, for a lady who lived in Africa and when come back had 2 hiv negative tests. 3 years later after donating blood they found hiv type o.  I am going crazy.
