hiv chances

by johndoeeee, Jul 18, 2009 01:34AM
Hi im an 18 year old male and i am a bit of a hypochondriac. However, about 9 months ago i had vaginal sex with a girl(also 18)  and my condom broke. Im not sure how long i was unprotected for but im pretty sure it was a couple of minutes and im also pretty sure i enjaculated in her. A day later she told me she had mono. I have had mono before so i know it is not likely to get it twice and would have noticed any symptoms and never got any. Since i am also a hypochondriac i noticed that symptoms of mono are also symptoms of acute hiv syndrome and this is also a more infectious stage. I recently asked her if she had hiv and she said no with assurance but i know many people have it and do not know it. I am realllyyyyy freaking out that i have it and what not and i would really like to know what the possibilities of transmission from one act of vaginal sex during acute hiv syndrome assuming she does have hiv. Thanks

unprotected sex does place you at risk (5 in 10000) however there are no specific symptoms for HIV and its impossible to diagnose via symptoms

my advise

1-take an HIV test 90 days after your last exposure and you will know the results
2-try to stick to one partner only
3-always use protection

in the grand scheme of things...it is unlikely that this 18 year old girl has hiv.  with that being said...the ONLY way to know your status is by testing.  since it has been 9 months since your exposure...you can test now for a reliable and conclusive test result.

until you are in a monogamous relationship where BOTH OF YOU have tested...ALWAYS use condoms.
sex lasts a few minutes...HIV LASTS A LIFETIME ! ! !
