HIV and HSV are two different things. Yes you can have both at the same time but each one manifests itself differently when first exposed. For example if a person who has both and infects another person, the newly infected person would first experrience HSV. From what I've read HSV normally takes about 2 weeks to start showing symptoms.
test perfomed at the time of your exposure, you would only test postive for HSV because HIV takes longer to show up in the body. Unfortunately you must wait 3 months and test again for HIV.
Teak, please let me know if this information is incorrect. I am currently going through this same situation myself. I am HSV2 positive and waiting it out to see if I may also have HIV. For everyone please remember a little lie can go a long way.
