how is everyone so sure you can stop worrying after a six month negative???

i have tested negative after 7 and a half months to a rapid blood antibody test, but i just read on here that the longest it took someone to make antibodies was 9 months, so how can i stop worrying. I think the anxiety and panic attacks i have had due to my constant worry for the last seven months has had something to do with it but i have just started to feel sick a week or two ago.....i guess my question is how are people just able to drop the worry and everything when after 6 months there is still a tiny chance you can have HIV.?

i am truly sorry teak and everyone else if I have offended anyone, ut the truth is that I came to this forum because I was scared. I have hypochondria already so when I started thinking about this it was a whole different level of fear. I do not know as much as any of you about HIV or HIV testing but all I do know is the test i had at the ER was rapid and i waited and within the hour they came back and said it was negative and i wasnt satisfied so i went to the local clinic made an appointment and saw a woman and had an orasure test. I held a swab type thing inbetween my bottom teeth and gums for 2 minutes and gave it to the woman  and she said she has seen it come back from the LAB in 4 days but she has also seen the LAB take as long as 14 days. I do not know why if this was a rapid test they would make me wait at least 4 days but i am going in for my results tomorrow and i will be absolutely sure to get the resons and explanations. Again I am sorry if i upset someone or offended anybody.

Worries can be hard to let go of, you need to find someone to talk to or something to occupy your mind and let go of all the stress you've been through because you are negative.

You need to go read OraSure tests. OraSure only manufactures Rapid tests. That's OraSure, OraQuick and OraQuick Advance. You can get your results in 20 minutes.

orasure has to be sent out to a lab, the orasure oraquick is the rapid, on is on the gums (the rapid) and the one you hold between your teeth and cheeks for 2 min i think, that takes about 2 weeks to get results .

I think all would test positive by three months. Heck, I think most would test positive by 6 weeks.

Hey, donkey, how about answering the question I asked you when you first posted this tripe. Namely, where in this post does he say he tested positive at 12 months? More importantly, where does he say he posted at, say, 3 months or 6 months negative before testing positive at 12 months?

Yeah, great, someone tested positive. What, exactly, are you getting at here? That this guy tested positive at 12 months? Sorry, a-hole, he never says that. Sorry, a-hole, he never even comes close to saying that.

I would figure someone save by God wouldn't be into spreading unwarranted fear. I must conclude that you are simply a d---head, not someone truly saved by God.

Well, what I think Teak is trying to say is that an OraSure test isn't sent to a lab, guy. The only people who administer an OraSure are those who have been trained to interpret the results. And there isn't a lot of training involved. Basically, they swab your gums, put the swab in a solution of chemicals, and wait for a mark to appear. It takes about 20 minutes, and there is not sending it off to a lab. In fact, there is no lab that evaluates OraSure results. That's the beauty of the test, it's done in 20 minutes or so.

no, i got my rapid blood test at the ER, and the ora sure takes 7-10 days to get results from a clinic because they dont have techs there and have to send the sample to a lab.

What do you mean you are getting your results tomorrow or monday on an orasure test? Now you can feed that BS to someone that doesn't know anything about testing but don't try it here. If you had an orasure test it is a rapid test and you would have had your result within 20 minutes of testing.

I hope i can do it as soon as possible.....this has literally been killing me for the past 7 and a half months. my mind feels like your body would after a terribly long run....it wants to rest haha if you didnt get that. I just want to put all this behind me I am getting the results tomorrow or monday to an orasure saliva swab test and if god willing everything goes good on that test and is negative then i hope my mind will be able to rest and  get off the idea of HIV with a very good lesson about safe sex learned.

Well, you can certainly worry about this for as long as you want. 6 months, a year, two years, 10 years, 20 years - basically, you're free to keep feeling anxiety about this for, like, ever.

Now, your anxiety wouldn't be based on anything other than an overactive imagination, or a bad case of hypochondria, of course. Truth is, you could have stopped worrying at the 3 month mark with a negative test. Heck, some people will tell you, based on your situation, you could have stopped worrying with a  6 week negative. Medically speaking, you don't have HIV. As for your mental health, I cannot say with any certainty, but I can guess.

The point of this is: you can step off this merry-go-round anytime you want. You do not, I repeat, you do not have HIV. However, it's up to you to stop the music, get off the little horsey and walk on home. When do you think you might do that?

what docs say 1 year is the only way to be 100% sure.  Maybe 10-20 years ago.  That is outrageous.  Everyone on this forums is looking forward to neg 3 mo results and a neg 6 mos would be the end of it period.  7.5 mos is overkill and that is coming from me...a worry-wart.  you are fine, fine, fine, fine...should I say it again...I guarantee you are negative

I know the feeling I'm nearing 6 weeks 4 medical people have said there is no reason why I should test positive, but I still can't get my mind off it. I intend to accept a 3 month negative if I get one.

why would the doctors say the 1 year mark is the only time you can be sure then, and i agree with you about the anxiety i do not want to feel like this anymore. I just want to wake and be sure i am HIV negative no more docs saying with the chances are that your negative...I realize the chance are slim to none but I cant make my mind get off of it

There is not a tiny chance that you could have HIV after 6 months, there's no chance. In rare rare cases it takes up to 6 months and this is for people on chemo., IV drug users and people on anti-rejection drugs for organ transplants. You can stop the worrying by looking at the facts: 7 and a half month test = NO HIV, period. If you cannot accept your definite and conclusive results then I would seek mental help because the anxiety and fear will do more harm to you than HIV. I hope you can get over this because there are too many good things in life to just sit around and worry about something that's not going to happen...best wishes, you are fine, you just have to convince yourself of that...hope this helps some.
