how long can blood stay fresh in a needle

My husband is a recovering addict and I am a square. I found a used needle with the cap on it and some blood inside. the blood was still wet and red. He says it's not his and that it is about 9 months old cuz it may have been from an old roommate. So my question is how long would it stay red and wet in a needle so I can have a time frame of when this needle was used. days weeks months?

Yeah well now I guess it doesnt matter cuz I just tried to give him a drug test and he said that he smoked meth last night cuz he was accussed of it and blah..blah....blah! Needless to say I'm even more pissed now. Since I was looking for it after finding the syringe I called him out and he confessed to being high today from last night and not the syringe. The worse part is that I haven't been talking to him since I found it and left the kids with him and some family friends. It wasn't til I got back from a for hour drive picking up my niece that I noticed. So my children were exposed to him like that. What kind of father does that. So I'm leaving him. Dirty piece of s**t! I'm not getting my kids taken away for anyone. Thanks for the tip any how.
