If someone possibly has hpv or genital warts would that affect a hiv blood test as for as FALSE POSITIVES are concerned?

Just to be clear, that was to everyone involved. The "to" cut off.

Enough with this argument. This board is for HIV support. This is not being productive to the forum and is completely off topic. Please move on or we will need to start deleting posts and potentially other actions which we would rather not do. Thank you.

Are you confused about what the definition of a mistake is Teak?  Mistake means to make a wrong choice and be wrong in that choice.  Therefore, like I have tried to drill into your head many times, I made a mistake by not wearing a condom.  Call it a mistaken choice or whatever small words you have to spin up to understand in that small mind of yours.  Conscious decision played no part in my not using a condom.  If there had been a conscious thought about it, I wouldn't have done it.  Perhaps you should not have paid so much attention in paramedic school and paid more attention in grammar school learning how to interpret things.  I suppose we shouldn't expect much of you, but this is just ridiculous.

Not using a condom was not a mistake, that was a conscious decision on your part. You knew the consequences of not using a condom, so no it was not a mistake. You took a life, for no reason at all, except for your stupidity.

Joey, thank you.  Teak let me say it again!  YES, you finally got something right.  I did make the CHOICE to have an abortion.  The choice resulted from a mistake (not using a condom).  Ideally, would I have used a condom and not gotten pregnant? Of course.  Do people make mistakes, especially one night mistakes?  Of course.  I got pregnant and immediately made the choice to have an abortion.  I was in no position, financially or otherwise, to have an child.  Go look at the Guttmacher institutes website (http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html).  Nearly HALF of all pregnancies are unintended and 25% of ALL pregnancies end in abortion.  Is that unfortunate?  Yes.  Did I make some rare, horrible decision?  No.  You are a man, you have no place to make any judgements on abortion.  If you are continually bringing this up for payback, as you say, then you are a complete and total ***, but we knew that already.  Grow up, act like you're 52 years old, and step out of your little world you have created in your head.  And its "play along" not "play right alone".

A mistake, no that isn't a mistake that was a decision she made. No condom, pregnancy and abortion. There is NO MISTAKE, that was a decision on her part. Now what is it Joey, you love slamming me, then when I return it you have a problem with it. Well up yours, dork. Payback is a Beeeech. You want to play your little games, than I can play right alone with you.

Your mistake was not catching HIV, your mistake was not wearing a condom, as was mine.  Men cannot get pregnant from their mistakes, but you know, and most certainly did know when you topped your men that you could get other STDs.  Therefore, whether or not you knew about HIV specifically, not wearing a condom was a mistake.  Condoms were not invented miraculously after HIV was discovered.

How can something be a mistake if no one knew what it was or how one contracted it? FOOL. If anyone needs to take a look at themselves it should be you.

Teak, you keep bringing up my mistake and not acknowledging your own.  I already admitted I made one, you bringing it up makes no difference to me.  I have come to terms with this.  You will have HIV for the rest of your life because of your mistake, or repeated mistakes.  I'm glad you are a man and don't have to deal with unwanted pregnancies.  It is people like you who shouldn't have anything to do with decisions like that.  Take a deep look at yourself and ask yourself if you really aren't bitter.

The only thing that makes me bitter and it has nothing to do with HIV. It's those that don't take responsibility, get pregnant and then have abortions. Now how smart were you? No, I don't want everyone to think they have HIV. I do however tell them if they have had a risk, then the only way to know their status is to test and you've never seen me state anything any different.

Don't worry about anything that Teak says in the future, he is a bitter old man who wants everyone to think they have HIV.  No, HPV does not affect HIV testing in any way shape or form.  They are completely different viruses and neither will cross react to produce false positive results, as you asked.

I don't believe in taking a life because of stupidity. Rape and to save the life of the mother is whole different set of circumstances, but to do it because of stupidity, is as low as you can get.

This is what the CDC actually says about HPV, "At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year."

Fortunately for all of us women, you are gay, and a man, therefore you will never be put in the situation of an unwanted pregnancy.  From your judgement of my abortion, you sound like a Christian conservative.  I wonder what that group would say about your life and actions.  I doubt they would think highly of it.  I will not justify my choice to you, except to say that I did what was best for my situation.  Neither you nor anyone else's opinion on this matters.  I learn from my mistakes, unfortunately, my one sexual mistake of unprotected sex led to an unwanted and obviously unplanned pregnancy.  If you knew about condoms, as you say, then you would have been using them the entire time you were sexually active, regardless of whether or not HIV had been discovered.  If you knew about condoms and diseases in general, you would not be in the position that you are in right now: that of a bitter old man infected with a disease he knows nothing about who sits around and attempts to prove people wrong with his two bits of advice "I dont do odds" and "get tested", the answers to 2 questions that people don't ask on this forum.  Maybe one day you can stop taking low blows and actually come up with some substantial retorts, until then, you will continue to come off as an old bitter man.

Yes, you're correct.

it is estimated that about 80% of sexually active people have HPV.
HPV could lead to cervical cancer....so they believe.
Other than regular check ups and monitoring HPV, it is not that serious.

Teak,
It really is not advantageous to respond to ignorant comments that attack you personally.

I personally thank you for being here.

There you go talking about something that you don't know a thing about. I do know about condoms and HIV and Pregancy. I didn't take a life, for being stupid.

I "best see"?  "While your searching"?  Interesting language.  The site is a conservative estimate based on the people they have tested.  They rarely, if ever, test men.  Most women don't get tested regularly either.  So, your 20 million estimate is based on the very small minority of people who actually got tested.  As far as you continuing to comment on my thread, maybe you should do a little more research about getting HIV from a cadavers bone laceration.  Get real Teak.  And maybe you should look at what the CDC said about using condoms in the gay community for anal sex PRIOR to the HIV epidemic.  You, like the rest of us, had no excuses to not use a condom, even before the disease was identified.  I suppose you think that syphillis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia were also not around prior to the epidemic, or perhaps being a "top" you weren't concerned about that. Condoms have been around since the time of ancient Egypt, 3000 years ago.  I know my excuse for not using one was complete and utter stupidity.  What is your excuse, as a gay man, for repeatedly not using one?

You best see when that page was first printed. What I sited was last updated February 8, 2007. While your searching see what the CDC says about using condoms for pregancy and HIV.

Once again, you are wrong.  According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), by the age of 50 more than 80% of American women will have contracted at least one strain of genital HPV. All women are encouraged to get a yearly pap smear solely to detect cellular abnormalities caused by HPV.  This is a bit closer to 90% I would say.  This is only women by the age of 50.  According to my gynecologist, all published guidelines that she receives from the CDC suggest that by the time women are 80, virtually all of them will have some strain of HIV.  Keep in mind, Teak, that there have been over 100 strains of HPV identified, several of them causing warts.  This data also does not include men, who are the major carriers and infectors of women.  Your data only includes those few women who have actually been tested for HPV, which, unless the regularly go to the gynecologist, they don't get regularly tested.  The fact is, HPV is so common that unless you have an abnormal pap, you are not even tested for HPV anymore.  Keep your fact finding missions on Google to data you actually know how to interpret.

That's BS. There is an estimated 20 million in the US infected with HPV. That's a far cry from 90%.

What ifs are definitely tough.  But think about it this way, over 90% of the population has HPV, and less than 1% of the population has HIV.  Don't try to associate things in your head to make yourself feel guilty.  HPV is super common.
