is a sore throat and hiv connected?

5 months ago i had unprotected vaginal and oral sex with this girl, once. i didnt worry about it at first but i did get sick about 12 weeks later with a fever and sore throat. i didnt think too much of that either, i just assumed it was the flu. then i got sick about a month later with the same symptoms and one of my neck glands was swollen. i started to worry then because i dont get sick that often. now i have a terrible sore throat that i have had for a few days and my throat seems dry as well. i am waiting on my results now and this is killing me. im losing so much weight from the stress, i cant eat right, nor sleep. worst of all every little thing that happens to my body i cant help but think its hiv. and i always hear stuff on tv, "hiv this, hiv that", im freakin out. like should i even worry about this? what are my chances of getting it? thanks in advance.

first off flu season is upon us, 12 weeks is  a little late for ars. you had unprotected sex , so you need and hiv test and std checkup, you most likely will be neg. as your chances are slim to none , but use condoms from now on

thanks for the replies, so i have 2 more days left until results. the suspense is killing me. i cant sleep or eat right. my mind is just wondering and i am getting really anxious. i was so scared i even contacted the girl that i had unprotected sex with to see if she had gotten tested. she said she tested negative in november. i was relieved for a few days but then remembered we had sex in october so at the most she tested 4 weeks after we had sex. not to mention i dont know when her last sexual encounter took place so it may have been too soon for a test. im just praying that she wasnt and still isnt infected because i know the first few weeks of infection make a person highly contagious. like could a person's fluids be that potent to transmit to a partner and still test negative, explain. man this sucks, all this drama cause she took the condom off for 20 seconds and then ejaculated. this is truly a life lesson, i will never do this foolishness again. abstinence ftw!

I am happy for you that your test for HIV was negative. It's time to move on, however have you tested for Hepatitis B? Most people who think they got HIV dont have it but that doesnt mean they are out of the woods 100 percent. Having unprotected sex is a high risk only if you dont know your partners status and even the hotty Pamala Anderson got Hepatits B. Next time just use a "latex condom" and dont have sex with sex workers. or girls that are just 2 easy. Think about it if you can have sex with a girl within 1 night then think about all the other guys she could of had sex with.

She tested 4 weeks after sex with you pronbably because she was worried about your STI / HIV status.

i'm not too worried that i have hepatitis i did start getting sore throats around flu season and it jus seemed coincidental. not to mention symptoms didnt show up until 3-4 months after the sex so i was probably jus overreacting.

Having read some of the comments in this forum I would like to say this: When someone has a symptom such as a sore throat it is criminal to link this in anyway to an HIV infection. I hear of more and more people being convinced that they have been infected with HIV because of a sore throat or some skin rash. That includes myself. What follows is immense stress and all the consequences that go with it to say the least.It is therefore every responsible person's job NOT to mention the word HIV in any forum related to everyday symptoms. Based on studies and all the research available, HIV thankfully still remains a very difficult and rare infection to catch.

Do you know what the 3 classic ARS symptoms are and how they come up with such symptoms,well I will tell you.They ask many HIV+ people if they ever had symptoms and what the symptoms were,at the top of the list was very high fevers,then a rash on the trunk--torso and limbs and the final symptom is an extremely sore throat.Not all people that become infected will experience these symptoms but if you have had a risky exposure and these symptoms appear 2 to 4 weeks after then you need to test.And by the way,you posted on a 4 year old thread,look at the date.

Symptoms are not discussed. HIV has no specific symptoms. The only way to know your status is by testing.
