hello again sorry for having to come back again i dont mean to agitate you in any way but i am really worried about my little sister ....today while we were coming from the mall we met an old friend of our parents and she shook my lil sisters hand and we talked for about 20mins with her and we parted ways now after that i handed my sister a bill and thats when she noticed she had a cut on the side of her finger that had some skin raised and had some dried blood on it i asked her if the cut hurt and she said no she didnt even feel it so i am thinking if it didnt hurt her it probably didnt bleed that much but the blood that was on the cut was a lil bit much now i dont want to freak out my lil sis but i am really worried what are the chances of her catching something if the blood was from the woman and she had scratched her during the handshake because she told me that was the only contact she had with anything should i get her PEP please her this will be my last question
Blood and cut transmission is not just theoretical, but it does NOT apply to your little nicks and cuts. You have NO concern!
Let it go. Follow the rules and you'll always be safe
thank you so much for clearing that up and for the info i cant thank you enough..so i guess the blood and cuts transmission is just theoretical and not a cause of concern?will keep telling myself that and reading that info you provided above ..thank you for your patience
Let's do a quick review. You have NEVER had a risk from ANY of the exposures you've written to us about, including your friend who kept fist bumping you! (And yes.......you ARE being paranoid)
NO HIV
NO STD's
NO NEED TO TEST
NO NEED TO TAKE PEP
You DO have a need to get your anxiety under control.
I will list the three (3) ways you CAN contract HIV and the ONE way to prevent EVER contracting it.
HOW YOU CAN CONTRACT HIV:
1) UNPROTECTED INSERTIVE ANAL/VAGINAL SEX WITH AN HIV+ PARTNER
2) SHARING DRUG WORKS (NEEDLES) WITH AN HIV+ PERSON
3) HIV+ MOTHER TO HER UNBORN CHILD
HOW YOU CAN AVOID EVER CONTRACTING HIV:
1) ALWAYS USE A CONDOM FOR INSERTIVE ANAL/VAGINAL SEX
You cannot get HIV from ANY environmental surface like toilet seats, door nobs, counter tops, chairs, eating utensils, cups or glasses etc etc etc.
I would not hesitate for a second to drink water from the same glass of a person who is HIV+. I would take a bite of food from their fork/spoon. I would kiss them, I would hug them, I would wipe their tears. If they sneezed or coughed on me I would say they were rude and throw the Kleenex box at them. I could write for a very long time about what I'd feel perfectly safe doing with them.
I would even have PROTECTED sex with them.
I would NOT share an IV needle with them.
I would not be afraid of them!!!!!!!
Keep learning about HIV. You're packing around so much fear and anxiety that you don't have to. Learn to get it out of your life.

the problem is i have been trying to get help but got nothing so my fears increase i really need to know the other modes of hiv transmission besides unprotected sex and injecting drugs because that i can really avoid...what really concerns me is if i have a cut i feel like i have to be particularly careful about greeting people and interacting with people lets say for instance today i got a few cuts on my knuckles and it bled a little then after 10mins i met with a friend who is +ve and is always bleeding on.his hands due to the manual work he does so his hand kept bumping on my hand just for fun so now i am thinking its a risk if his blood got on my knuckle cuts or i am just being paranoid?
The best place for you to gain some great education about HIV is right here on the HIV Prevention Forum. Just come here and read the posts and the replies. You will learn a very great deal, but it is all factual and up to date. Googling random symptoms about HIV will take you to some really bad websites that do nothing but scare people to death.
If you want to the learn the REAL facts and the TRUTH about HIV, this is the place.
I understand you might have OCD, for which you can help for, and which we also have a forum about.............but why are you so anxious about HIV?
I believe if you did get some help for what might be OCD or anxiety, your fear of HIV would greatly diminish.
I wish you the best

thank you for your reply..actually i have been trying to educate myself about hiv and thats how i came across some saying if saliva with blood gets into your eyes you can get hiv since the eye is a mucous membrane thats why i panicked after my cousin's possibly blood tainted saliva got into my eye ..thank you for the re-assurance maybe its high time i seek some professional help i might actually be suffering from OCD....ohhhhh the NIGHTMARE!!
You had NO RISK.
You DO NOT need to test.
You definitely DO NOT need to take PEP.
You need to get educated about HIV. Sounds like it would save you a lot of anxiety.
hie i have a different question today my cousin brother had a fight and was bleeding in the mouth and the lips so i am preety sure he had some blood in his saliva and when he was talking to me facing me i felt his saliva on my eye and now i am in panick mode can u please assess my risk if his saliva mixed blood got into my eye am i at risk?do i need PEP?i would appreciate if you answered me
i went back and they use transparent tubes and the black/dark red was not supposed to be there now i guess its all clear even to me that this spot definitely didnt belong on a new un-used tube....so the chances of this being blood are high and i am sorry if i sound rude but you guys are not really assessing my risk but thinking that there is no way a tube could be re-used but mistakes do happen right?...now can you please assess my risk considering that i am in no way making this up its really troubling me!judging by your other reply where you said *they just dont re-use collecting tubes for their protection so as mine*i am assuming if it was re-used i am at risk...final question and i wont ask again
If they are like the tubes we used at the hospital I worked at, that mark which you thought was blood from the tube being reused is actually a reference mark for the person collecting blood. That mark needs to be on the outside of the lancet prick. Your anxiety is getting the better of you!
If you want, you can go back to the lab and they will be happy to explain their collection methods to you.
guys i understand that you are saying lab techs would not re-use their tubes but i really saw the dark-red/black drop that was right at the opening of the tube ..i just concluded that it was blood what else can it be if it was new ?am preety sure that it was blood and it was directly on my prick inorder to collect blood since its those tubes that are not attached to needles
you need to calm down , you are safe of HIV
Professional lab techs, phlebotomists and RN's would NEVER REUSE ANY type of blood collection paraphernalia. It just is not done...........and that is every bit for THEIR protection as it is for YOURS.
As Vance told you, you had no risk.
OMG really *all smiles* lol so you mean even if the blood in the little tube got into my prick its not a risk?can you please elaborate why its not a risk i would really appreciate it
