knife wound cut

I am really worried as i got robbed the other night in london 2 young men pulled a 28cm knife out on me and wanted my laptop bag i refused to give and they started poking me in the leg with the knife i then said ok take the bag had my mom's keys my letter and other stuff worth money the first guy took the bag the second guy who was a black male took the big knife and said im going to stab him up, i then fought holy moly and tried stopping him he stabbed me the body but my leather jacket saved me i was trying to get the knife from him but as i was doing that i grabbed the blade and and got 2 deep cuts on my left hand and blood began to pore out i allso cut my right hand but my left hand came off worst i then managed to get the black guy off me, and i then ran as i was cut and escaped from the corner
my question is am i at risk of contracting HIV or anything els ? P.S im really worried ?

I am going to assume you not only called the police but also went to the hospital for treatment. The hospital team should have discussed possible HIV transmission with you and the pros and cons of starting PEP. That you are asking us causes me to wonder if any of these discussions took place.

Unless the knife used to cut your hand had been used WITHIN SECONDS on an HIV+ person prior to cutting you, any blood on the knife would have been exposed to air and temperature changes and the virus (if any) would be rendered inactive. (Unable to infect)

If it has been LESS than 72 hours since you were cut, return to the hospital and discuss beginning PEP. If it has been longer than that, PEP will NOT be effective.

My assessment is that you did NOT have a risk for HIV.

PEP has side effects, so be truthful with the hospital staff if it has been over 72 hours.
