late seroconversion /Low folic acid levels

by Striker13, Jul 03, 2009 03:18AM
Hi Dr,
In late march 2009 about 90 over days ago.I had an encounter with a massue. There were no sex involved but there was mutual masturbation,I fingered her roughly for a few minutes. While washing my hands immediately afterwards, I felt a stinging sensation on the finger that I used to finger her, after examining the finger, I found no visible cuts nor blood but could feel slight discomfort on the finger.(HIV risk??)
Now for the last 3months, I had been feeling under the weather , anxious and having stomach issues. I had gone for a few HIV test using the oraquick 1/2 methods.
1st time-3 weeks,2nd time-5 weeks,3rd time-8 weeks,4th time-11.5 weeks, all of which were negative.
Lastly on the 90day mark( 3mths), I did a full body screening along with the HIV test.
HIV test was negative so were the Hep A and B test.
But my liver levels ALT are elevated more than 3 times the standard levels. My B12 levels are above 1000, but my folic acid levels are very low.
Folic acid deficency are found in AIDs patient, do i have HIV or do i have Hep C.Could i seroconvert late?

You do not have HIV.  For starters, the exposure you describe was zero risk for HIV, hepatitis of all sorts and other STDs.  Thus you never needed testing and you have taken your test results at 8 weeks, 11.5 weeks and at90 days as proof that you do not have HIV.  Finally, let me tell you with confidence that the idea of "late seroconversion" is essentially an urban myth.

Folic acid is largely taken in from the diet. You should work with your doctor to sort out the origin of your laboratory abnormalities.  You do not have HIV.

I hope this comment is helpful to you.  EWH

Thank you for the assurance.
Just one last question. Could autoimmune diseases such as Common variable immunodeficiency CVID cause late seroconversion or delayed seroconversion.Or even malasorption diseases.I have been losing a bit of weight of late.

These questions are baseless unless you have CVI.  Malabsorbtion would not change late serocoversion which is, as you have been told, an urban myth.  Please, no more baseless "what if" questions.  You do not have HIV.  such questions will not be answered.  EWH
