leaking sharps box

Hello,
Whilst collecting used "sharps" boxes for disposal at the health centre  one of the boxes had not been fully locked shut.As a result an oily fluid, which i believe may have been from a part used vile of injectable medication, had leaked onto the sides of the box and as a result got onto my hands. My question is,that although i understand the HIV virus cannot survive for long in the environment  outside of its host, could it remain active for longer if mixed within such a solution though open to the air.
I thank you for your time with this matter .

No any other solution would cause it to deactivate quicker.
