lymph node question

by keystonelight, Dec 16, 2008 07:46PM
Is a group of shoddy lymph nodes (3-4) that is bilateral (on both sides) of the cervical region of the neck considered generalized lymphadenopathy?  Or is it considered just one area (the neck) even though it is on both sides?

Also I saw a post made by Dr. H a few years ago that I would like explained.

"There is no STD (that's none, zero, zilch) that presents with shotty lymph node enlargement of the sort you describe. Most people in your situation have no serious health problem at all--and usually no cause is ever found for the lymph gland enlargements. The same almost certainly applies to your wife.  Follow up with your own doctor, who already has reassured you.  Almost certainly you have nothing to worry about, definitely not HIV or any other STD.

The only type of lymph node enlargement have been experiencing is the shotty type (several of them, but all about the size of peas).  Does this mean I can cross off generalized lymphadenopathy from my symptom list?

Look man, just stop looking for symptoms at all. Seriously - you're only going to create concern for yourself.

You had sex a few times with someone who is VERY likely HIV negative. While your exposure was still risky, you shouldn't keep looking out for symptoms. Lymph nodes swell all the time, and they'll probably swell even more because of you touching and poking them like that.

Stop looking for symptoms, period.
