need for further testing??

need for further testing??

Dear Doctor,

I am a 30 yr old male. 3 weeks ago I had unprotected cunnilingus with a female SW in Brazil. There was no other exposure and I have no other risk factors. I am aware this is a low risk activity for most STD's and HIV but was feeling anxious nonetheless and had a full panel of tests done, including HIV DNA, at 12 days post event. All of the tests came back negative. I haven't had any symptoms except 48 hours after the event my tongue got dry and covered in a white and yellowish film, especially towards the back. This is unusual for me so I went to a clinic and the doctor looked at some cells under the microscope but didn't see anything unusual. She also swabbed my throat and sent it to a lab for oral gonorrhea, and that came back negative too. So here is my question -

-Based on the above do you reccommend an HIV test at 3 months (for any other reason than to ease any potential anxiety I may still have)?

Thank you so much for your help!!

Welcome to the forum.

HIV has never been reported to be transmitted by cunnilingus, in either direction.  And your 12 day HIV DNA test is strong evidence it didn't happen to you.  Frankly, you don't need any HIV testing at all after this sort of exposure.  But if you remain concerned, have an antibody test (or a duo test for HIV antibody plus p24 antigen) 4 weeks or more after the exposure, to confirm the negative DNA test. You can be sure any future HIV testing of any kind will remain negative, if this is your only potential high risk exposure.
