I had a finger prick blood test done recently. The technician had soiled gloves and I was concerned that this may have been blood on his gloves. I was so nervous about the procedure that I did not think to ask him to change his gloves. With these soiled gloves he touched the area of my finger where he placed the lancet to draw a drop of my blood. No alcohol prep pad was used at this juncture. I was concerned that if he had transferred blood from another patient onto his glove and then onto my finger and then lanced my finger that he may have introduced into the puncture wound possible hiv virus which he transferred from his glove onto my finger and then into my finger by way of the lancet. I know that a stick by a lancet is fairly innocuous , however, I was concerned about it being used as a mechanism to drive the blood that may have been on my finger from his gloves and into my finger. What are the chances of hiv infection in this manner? Thank you.
