nonoxynol-9 condoms and HIV prevention

I just learned today that condoms with nonoxynol-9 (spermicide) are not good for HIV prevention.  For many years I used these condoms thinking that I was protected. I understand that nonoxynol-9 gel would not be effective at preventing HIV, but here is my question:

How good are condoms with nonoxynol-9 at protecting someone from an HIV infected individual?

Thanks!

Also see the following posting on lambskin condoms, which may be less protective against HIV compared to latex or polyurethane condoms:

Condoms are useful against HIV!

However, condoms without nonoxynol-9 (spermicide) are slightly better at preventing HIV and other STDs since they are less likely to cause irritation.

sorry for my post, i found the answer in another post:

to answer your question, i did not experience condom failure.  my phrasing could have been better, i read that it is not recommended for preventing HIV and STIs, but as was mentioned in the post referenced it would still be good at preventing them.  I now know not to continue buying condoms  nonoxynol-9.
