i had oral sex (both giving and receiving) with a woman i thought to be hiv negative in june. since then i've had a sore in my mouth, night sweats, feel shakey, flank pain, red skin, rash on the back of my hand, arm and neck. i took an hiv test at approximately 11 weeks post exposure with the clearview hiv test and a negative result. i'm still having all of the symptoms at 5 months. what's my risk for hiv? what's the window period? how reliable is the clearview hiv test? is the 11 week negative conclusive? what do you think?

There is no debate (among experts) about the HIV risks associated with oral sex. The risk is so low that almost nobody who cares for HIV infected patients has ever had a patient believed to have been infected that way. Among experts, it's a semantic issue about using terms like "no risk" and "very low risk". There is no difference between my or Dr. Hook's use of "low risk" and other experts' "no risk".

Thank you for answering my post, I also spoke with Teak about this and he seems to have the same opinion. I spoke with an hiv counselor a bit ago and he says that the 11 week test is not conclusive and that oral is definitely a risk factor. I'm starting to freak out all over again. Would you recommend testing again? You guys are such a huge help. Sorry to bug you about this.

Oral sex is not a risk for HIV and your test proves that you do not have HIV.
