oraquick at home question.

Had a few protected run ins with women of unknown status. Took an oraquick at home test about 18 weeks after these encounters and had my gf take one too just in case. Both came back negative with strong line next to the "C". I feel like we only scrubbed half of each gum though and can't remember. Should I look at this negative as definitive?
Thanks in advance

Hey you are welcome!! :)

It is always difficult and a response to your exact concern can be a great help.

I have bee where you are now, - you are the same as me, HIV Negative.

You will look back and smile about these worries in the month to come! :)

Thanks fellas. I was nervous as can be when I took the test stopped early on the swab and that's where it all started. I hadn't eaten or drank 30 minutes prior...i was 20 weeks past last "exposure"...and I got a clear line near the C with nothing else. I literally looked through 80 posts where it was said to be definitive outside of 3 months. Then I added the caveat "if you followed instructions" which I took my not stabbing the entirety of my gums as not following instructions. Sorry for the repetitive posting just know getting responses on my own scenario and clearing up my worries has helped quite a bit.

Hi There.

Apologies for my spelling earlier, I answered on my iPhone - blood predictive text! lol

It is hard to accept as we as humans suffer guilt and blame etc, you really are HIV negative from your test and it is safe to move on.

try doing some exercise and eating well, go out for a movie and keep busy - HIV is no way a concern for you, - if it was, myself and others would say go for testing.

Please believe your results - you are HIV Negative!!

Best Wishes.

If your Oraquick was taken 12 weeks or more post exposure and you followed the instructions then you're good to go.
The oral mucousa is rich with antibodies if infected and the test is a tad prone to give false positives.
Messing up the test is virtually impossible . If you got a clear line at the C then the test run its course and it did not detect any antibodies.
It is designed for people with reading comprehension issues...of which you seem not afflicted by according to the grammar of your post.

Why is it so hard to accept these negative results man? I know you went through the worry too, but why do I stay focused on this "up to 1/12 false negatives" and think I messed up the test and got false results ?

It us through worry buddy I did the same.
Mi sat through my 30th dying inside with people telling me I was loosing weight... Soon as I stopped worrying it went back on.

Don't look for ways to make your HIV status incorrect, your status is negative and even if you were to lose 10 pounds in the next week HIV wold not be the reason :)

Thank you man. I know it's crazy and I swore I wouldn't be one of those guys who obsessed but the mind is a scary place. I think it's because one wad a prostitute and provided the condom herself my mind raced. Then when I got the balls to test I read about false negatives....then convinced myself I was outside of the window so that wouldn't happen..which led to my final trick where my mind convinced me I put the swab in and swabbed nothing because I was terrified haha.

I've seen you post on many stories here and needed a little reassurance. As you can see what I've done above I keep thinking what if I didn't swab right or enough or didn't swab at all? Crazy I kno...i definitely put the pad in my mouth and a control line showed with nothing at almost 5 month's..with that and the fact my only "symptom" was weight loss would you say I'm good and just letting anxiety get the best of me??

From what I understand the 91.7 % is only with positive results and as long as test taken after three months a negative is 99.9 percent accurate

I think it has definitely played a role. I lost about 7lbs without trying and when I noticed the first thing I remembered was these encounters and I suddenly got anxious and worried and freaked out the last week as I felt I was eating more and still losing a few more lbs. I thought what if the condom broke? What if it slipped through? Then I got the test and took it and started freaking out about the 1/12 false negatives :(it's been killing me.

You said that you had protección, why are you doing the test?  Do you think this can be some kind of anxiety ?

Thank you I appreciate the response just wasn't sure if half would give enough of a sample or whatever. I assumed it did given the C line but needed reassurance.
