p24 Antigen Test Sites

I recently found out that my partner is HIV +. I went for the OraCheck Advanced and it came back negative; however,
since its only been 8 days since we had sex last there was concern about the antibodies being picked up yet. The clinic said that I should come back next weekend for a HIV protein test which would eliminate the 3-month antibody testing period but that results would take 2-3 weeks. Does anybody know of any labs (i.e. LabCorp) in the tri-state are that have a quicker turn-around? Thank you in advance!

The antigen test does not eliminate the need to get a 3 month conclusive test if you test negative on the antigen test. P24 are not an approved stand alone test. They must be followed up with an antibody  test.

Thank Teak for getting back to me so quickly. While I have every intention of following up and then some I was hoping that I might be able to get a p24 antigen test, or even an RT-PCR test, done in the meantime. Would you happen to know if that's possible anf if so where I could obtain one? I'm on the north NJ-NY border

The only approved PCR test is the PCR-RNA test which is a supplemental test that also has to be followed up with an antibody test.

I'd advise to listen to Teak and go for ELISA - according to the existing CDC protocol. PCR-RNA are subject to higher false-positive rates in comparison to ELISA. Living through the stress of a false-positive PCR with months of waiting for the conclusive ELISA ahead may prove to be an experience you wish you had avoided.
