Sorry..I'm not sure where to start. I was in a long relatoinship with someone that lasted till April of 2006. During our 4 year relationship we had unprotected vaginal sex. The reason for our breakup is because I found out she had been with another man for almost a year. Its important to note that the last 2 years with her was long distance so sexual contact occurred once every 2 months or so. About a week after our last unprotected sexual contact sometime in April of 2006 I came down with fever, and constant diahrea. A week later went to a doctor and he put me on a weeks antibiotics. Stomach felt better but still had multiple GI related issues so he referred me to a GI specialists. Had a endoscopy done and found among other things Candida esophagitis (biopsy confirmed it). Had a complete blood check done including test for HIV and everything came back normal. Took diflucan, took care of the problem and with some rest I was overall healthy again.
For the next few months or so I’ve been battling sinus and upper respiratory infections. It seems like I would get a cold every 1-2 months. It also seems my recovery time for the colds would take 2-3 weeks., much longer then I was used to. During January of this year again I had major GI issues. Went to ER because it was so bad. Hospital found I had a campylobacter infection. Went back to my primary physician and he finds it strange that a 25yr old would be dealing with so many health issues…the candida esophagitis and campylobacter infection esp. puzzled him. Had me take another HIV and CBC test taken in February. Again everything came back normal.
Just last week my ex girlfriend calls me and tells me that she’s HIV positive. She believes she got HIV from the person she cheated on me with.. Ok so my last sexual contact with her occurred in April of 2006 and my last HIV test was in February of 2007so its been 10 months and the test results still remain negative. Should there be reason for me to get another test? Its been 15+ months and I believe the results will remain negative. All my blood tests come back normal so my physician thinks everything is just caused by stress and bad luck..
I guess my question is could I have HIV without the tests stating that I’m positive? The candida esophagitis especially frightens me as I read it’s a late stage HIV infection. What should my next step be? Should I seek another physician? Although I believe they will run another blood tests and everything will be normal again… I’m sorry this has been such a long read I’m just frustrated with everything that’s going on and last weeks news really scared me.. Thanks for your help..
