please help..will anti retrovirals work?

Will PEP work? Two weeks ago I met a new guy and we have had unprotected sex since (7 june) at least 4 times. We spent last  weekend together  and had unprotected sex throughout the weekend.and only after this did I start to worry about our status. I have always been negative and my last HIv test was a month ago  and I was negative. I am crazy to have slept with him without a condom but he completely swept me off my feet and I still have feelings for him. On Monday I suggested that we go for a test. After the rapid test on Monday I was still negative but his was inconclusive and we still had unprotected sex. The doctor suggested that he does another test whereby blood was drawn from his veins.The results came today  (Wednesday)and he is positive.I last had sex with him on tuesday morning. After getting the news, I asked the Doctor for PEP and started the 3 day starter pack today. Will PEP work taking into account I have been sleeping with him for 2 weeks although my last exposure was 48hours ago? Really worried and numb. please help urgently.
