when your pregnant,im just really anxious and was wondering if anyone could tell me the chances of me being infected.Ive been with my current partner for 3 years, and before that i was with my ex for 5 years,he slept around behind my back, but has just had a child of his own so i think i would know if he had it?After i split up with him i was single for 6 months and slept with 4 (3 were 1 night stands)people, unprotected,i knew them well, and 3 of them never ejaculated,am i at high risk or low? Also would i show any symptoms now?how long before they show?ive read it can take up to ten years? All the men ive slept with are straight and dont use drugs, any advice to calm my fears
Hi joe and thanks for replying,i feel a bit better, but still worried, how come it is a hard virus to transmit,is it like that because i am straight and it was penile to vaginal, not anal?I dont mean to be ignorant, but i read somewhere that it is more common in homosexual men?
So in theory is my risk low not counting my ex of 5 years?
I dont ever remember having the symptoms after any sexual contact,i know that not every one has them,i know that 2 of the people i slept with were virgins so im thinking they could not have had hiv, right?
Also do you know how long it takes for the blood tests to come back,i think the nurse said a few weeks but i was panicking so cant really be sure, sorry to be a pain,i just want to know the facts,if theres a good web site you could refer me to i would be really grateful.
Take care
Lyndsey x
Your test was done as part of your pregnancy blood work.
As far as your ex having a child, that doesn't necessarily mean he is neg, HIV is notaneasy virus to transmit. And also is not something to guess about.
Symptoms or the lack of are never a way to diagnose HIV. And usually if someone has symptoms they occur 2-4 weeks after exposure.
A routine blood work check, CBC, WBC, etc. is no way to even considerbeing infected. Only an HIV test at the appropriate time will give you an answer.
You did have a risk and you did have a cuople incidents, but as I said before, HIV is difficult to transmit.
As long as you are 6-8 weeks past your last exposure you will get a pretty solid indcator of what a conclusive test would be at 3 months.
