I believe it is better to be safe than sorry...
So I do NOT agree with casual things being said about oral sex. This unfortunately may mislead people and cause them more harm in the future.
Best --play safe.
Read your 2003 post again.
The Options Project found that 7.8% (8 of 102) of recently infected men who have sex with men in San Francisco were probably infected through oral sex.
in this sentecnce alone I can find three things wrong with it.
1. survey was on men who have sex with men.
2. the word "probably" means what it says. thats like saying maybe or might have.
3. the survey was done on the statements of human beings aka liars, forgetters, misplaced minds.
We have all seen this survey before on here atleast 5 times this month.
If you read further into it, it will also say that 3 of 8 had bad hygiene and 7 of 8 came into contact with pre seminal/ejaculation (aka: the giver)
Please read the link from cdc website. Giving or Receiving has risk associated. Studies have shown 7-8% of people with new infections may have been due to oral transmission.
You may not like to hear or read about it, but facts should remain facts.....

I agree with you, a risk is there, especially for the person performing. I don't know why people get all touchy when this subject comes up.
Receiving oral is a little bit trickier, because a) no such cases have ever been proven and b) exposure to saliva is not considered risky for HIV. So I think that CDC is doing the right thing calling the risk "theoretical". Which means "possible, but never happens".
MedHelp does not allow external links. Usually they will delete comments that include links in them.
cdc says the risk is "Theoretical"
Theoretical definition: 1."concerned primarily with theories or hypotheses rather than practical considerations" 2. Pertaining to theory; depending on, or confined to, theory or speculation; speculative;
Meaning this could happen but probably never will and never will be confirmed.
I find it strange people keep posting giving Oral and receiving oral cannot give a person HIV. Please read the "CDC" site. This is and should be the governing body as it collects data from all over the US. It clearly say there is risk giving and receiving Oral. It may be minimal but it is there.
Well I looked and found this: http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/Transmission_9963.shtml it seems that they think it is possible. I'll never know as I did more than perform oral on her. I am not sure if this helps, but the information is there. People post links on this site all the time and so I am not sure if this will be removed.
why will he have it removed? aren't you allowed to post links on this site?
Make sure you read the lessons on hiv transmission. I can't post the link because teak will seek to have it removed.
Anyway, the lessons there are actually very good. They are very truthful IMO which is why my posts on this very subject were removed from here.
I've never visited that site, I might have to try it in the future.
some people claim only oral as a risk and some only claim being a top as a risk. Go to aidsmeds and say that you only had one of these for a risk and they will call you on it. Wierd how even they don't believe everyone. Indicates to me that they know where the real risks are. Its all there free for the reading on their forums.
I agree that there is no conclusive way to study this. From a biological perspective though, scientists have studied oral transmission in vivo and have not been able to replicate its transmission there. Like another poster said, a lot of serodiscordant posters have unprotected oral every day. The negative partner never ends up with HIV. Who knows if the poster is telling the truth about only having ever had oral. Shame and guilt can go a long way in stopping someone from admitting their actions.
Since when are you HIV +? Were you giving or receiving when you think you goit it?
Yesitcan is not mentioning this, but presumably he got it giving blowjobs, not getting blowjobs.
While the CDC definitely says oral sex is a risk, they do not have a documented case of anyone ever being conclusively infected from oral sex. In keeping with their legal, CYA attitude, they of course have to say that oral sex poses a risk. Transmission by this route is highly unlikely. Smooching is a known way NOT to catch HIV.
The CDC says oral sex is a risk. They are the governing body for infectious diseases. They should know. So, there is a risk, albeit a small one.
