by help_anxious, Jul 15, 2009 01:40PM
Dear Users,

Im 17 years old male, when i was 8 i was sexually abbused by an older man for more than 4 months in my liife and he never used condoms. Since then i tried to forget it  andi lived a normal and happy live till now, i have thoughts what if he was hiv positive, im really scared and im freaking out everytime i think about it. He told me back then, he slept with alot of women and men. Im scared to make a test, my question is if i got infected 9 years ago is it too late for a treatment. Thanks so much for your answers.

Have you tested for you anxieties? If no unprotected anal sex was involved you were not at risk.

You should test. There is no downside to testing.

If you were infected 9 years ago chances are you would be very sick by now, but you need to test to be sure.

Go to Planned Parenthood or your local health department and explain what happened.

I had anal sex with him thats why am scared and i dont feel sick rite now is it normal to have heavy symptoms if it was 9 years ago and would i notice it or is it from case to case different.thanks so much for your quick reply.

No not necessarily. I had HIV for 21 years before having symptoms. The only way to know your status is by testing.

There is considerable variability on how long it takes to progress to AIDS after HIV infection.

It's encouraging that you are still healthy after 9 years but you still need to test to rule out infection.

I tested yesterday they told me the results will arrive on monday and am really scared of the result. Teak, so you think if i had it for 9 years but still feeling healthy i still have a chance with medication or you think its too late? Thank you for your help.

Thank you Teak, you really give me hope but could it be that its really rare in your case and just a few could survive that long without meds would i still have a chance most of the sites are saying that one can only survive for 10 years without meds. Sorry for still asking, its just i cant talk to anybody and ask cause of my past and your the only one i can ask. Thank you so much for your help! You are such a great person!
