sorry, wrong forum but still need expert opinion on STD's

I had a full panel STD and HIV screening mid November 2009 and was free and clear of everything. Went to the Dr. yesterday because I thought I had a UTI.  My urine test came back normal, vaginal ph was also normal. After looking at slides under the scope the Dr. told me it looked like I had a good amount of good bacteria, a little bit if yeast a little bit of bad bacteria.

I was given an rx for a one-time 1000 mg dose of Zithro, I'm thinking her best clinical assumption is that I have Chlamydia. (Waiting for the labs on Chalmydia and Gonorreah that will come back in a week. I have no color to my discharge and no foul odor. I do have somewhat of a burning feeling from my vagina w/ slightly watery to normal discharge, pain in my pelvic area, urgent need to urinate and urethral discomfort. During the exam everything was tender to the touch, in particular cervical swabbing & external pressure placed on my uterus.

These are the two un-protected sexual encounters I've had in the past months, which one did I most likely contract an STD from?  #1  5 weeks, 3 days ago:  let the guy I'd been dating perform oral sex on me.  He tried to have sex with me, started to penetrate & I pushed him back off of me pretty quickly, that was the only & the end of all vaginal to penis contact during our encounter. #2  3 weeks ago:  ex-hubby, oral and vaginal sex, a couple of times.

After encounter #2 I felt sore the morning, but that's fairly normal when I've been with him.  It wasn't until about 2 weeks ago that I started having some discomfort which I thought was just another yeast infection.

I'm not expecting an honest answer from either of these people and would like to know where this likely came from.  The ex-husband claims he's not had sex with anyone else, but now I'm doubting his integrity and honesty.

Welcome to our Forum.  As you know, you have posted on the wrong site.   Questions about STD belong on the STD Forum.  I will do my best to answer your questions with this reply but, if you have additional questions or follow-up they must be on the STD Forum site.  Sorry

I think the starting point for this reply is to point out that you have symptoms but that neither you nor your doctor are sure at this point what might be causing them.  Your symptoms, which have been present for almost two weeks include burning on urination and vaginal tenderness during the examination which was rather diffuse in nature.  These sorts of symptoms are actually rarely due to classical STDs like gonorrhea or chlamydia and are more typically symptoms of either yeast infection (which does not have to have a thick white discharge and is not an STD) or trichomonas which is an STD.  That your doctor saw "a little bit of yeast" suggests this may have been the culprit.  Did he/she treat you for the yeast- I might have.

On the other hand, without being sure what was going on, I probably would not have given you the azithromycin without knowing what I was treating.  The azithro could actually make the yeast worse if that is what is present.

IF this is an STD (and I emphasize the "if"), I'm afraid it would be difficult to determine for sure which partner you got it from.  In general, for symptoms to occur after 5 weeks and with questionable penetration is unlikely.

I hope these comments help.  I'm more concerned about yeast than anything else from what you tell me.  EWH

Thank you very much for responding in light of my having mistakenly posted to the wrong forum, I genuinely appreciate it. I am new to this site.

The Dr. I saw was at a clinic because I'm un-insured. Follow up visits for questions are very expensive, which is why I'm here.  She did give me an rx for diflucan to clear up any remaining yeast & to stop any increase I could encounter from taking the Zithromax.  It was the rx for the Zithro that confused me regarding what I may/may not be dealing with.  She did say I had some bad bacteria, which is what led me to believe it was.  I forgot to mention that I have already used over the counter 1 day monistat and 7 day monistat in the past two weeks.  Hopefully it's nothing close to my worst fear.

Thank you again for doing the best that you could to answer all my questions.

Glad to help.  Please let us know if the diflucan works (it is available generically).  EWH
