do symptoms come on the same day and leave on the same day? is that the case? or can certain symptoms last longer and if so which ones?

Symptoms or lack of symptoms doesn't mean squat. NO symptoms don't come on one day and leave the same day.

Symptoms related to ARS generally last for a week or so.  And be careful about diagnosing yourself based on sypmtoms. They are rarely an indication of anything.  If you think that you have been exposed to HIV you need to be tested. Some professionals feel that 6 weeks is plenty of time others advise waiting until 12 weeks has passed. Nevertheless, if you have participated in unsafe sex then you should be tested.  Good luck and be safe in the future.
