Helloo,
any one know is there any relation between HIV & Blood pressure & Cholestrol
Ignore Phoenix800's reply he is not qualified to give information and the information he has give is incorrect.
I would get a PCR test. PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. PCR is a technique to look for unique DNA. PCR for the HIV virus looks for DNA of the HIV virus. This test has a 95% confidence level for detecting the presence of the HIV virus after 28 days.
p24 will show up till 4 weeks or so. This website shows 6 weeks based on manufacturers clinical studies. If you tested only for p24 antigen, its of little use. You need to test for antibodies too. However, a 4th generation Combi test (p24 antigen & antibody like the one in website) negative at 4 weeks is a good sign because it detects for p24 protien and antibodies, absence of both means a negative at that point; but still not conclusive. Antibodies will take time to develop and be detectable.
Get an HIV-ELISA test between 6 weeks (this will give you reassurance) and 13 weeks (after 90 days) for a conclusive result. Stay well.
is it enough 25days for a p24 test??or good up to 28 days ie 4 weeks pls reply sir
From the above link it shows that p24 turns +ve up to 6 weeks...
According to Teaks post p24 shows positive up to 4th week and after that it turns -ve
am i correct....

Teak,
Do you think a 'p24 Antigen/Antibody Combi' test is beneficial at 3-6 weeks? I found this info:
http://www.roche-hiv.com/portal/eipf/pb/hiv/Roche-HIV/first-line_diagnosis
Interesting graph they have on p24, antibody etc.
From this, it seems people who take a p24 Ag/ab will benefit from an early diagnosis. Or is this Pharma/Manufacturer's Mkt Strategy?
What do you think? Of course a repeat test later (12-13 weeks) is conclusive, no denying. You comments please.
sony007 - Did you get a ag/ab combi test?
The p24 Antigen Test
The p24 antigen test identifies actual HIV viral particles in blood (p24 is a protein specific for HIV). However, the p24 antigen test is generally only positive from about one week to 3 - 4 weeks after infection with HIV. The p24 protein cannot be detected until about a week after infection with HIV, because it generally takes that long for the virus to become established and multiply to sufficient numbers that they can be detected. The p24 antigens then become undetectable again after sufficient antibodies to HIV have been produced, because they bind to the P-24 protein and eliminate it from the blood. Once antibodies are produced, the p24 test will register negative even in people who are infected with HIV. Of course, at that point the regular HIV antibody test will then be positive.
The p24 antigen test has very limited value in diagnosing HIV infection. It has been used in HIV research and, since 1996, has been used as an additional screening test in blood banks to help reduce the window period and reduce the possibility of HIV infected blood being used in transfusions.
Most people will not benefit from having a p24 antigen test. People who have engaged in behaviors that may have put them at increased risk of infection with HIV.
but when i consult a doctor here (INDIA) he told me to take p24 that's why i took it and told that the test will be 99% accurate.. but when i ask abt the time limit he told me there is no time limit for it..once the antigen is detected it willnot go away so it will be detected in p24 at any time..
anyway
1) i think i had taken the test in the correct time is'nt it?
2)should i want to test for another?
3)how much my test is accurate?
pls reply

P24 test is an antigen test, which has a very short window period from 1-3 possibly 4 weeks. It's not a stand-alone test and has to be followed up with an antibody test.
wat is p24 test should it check the antibody also?
wats the time limit to take p24 test ? pls answer
when should i take p24 test?
is taken at 25 days is ok ?
move on
no they arent painful at all
dont know about cost of test in your area
how the Swollen glands lymp gland looks like should it be big or how in size..is it painful....where it occurs.. how much the p24 test cost? i had paid Rs 1000 is it the price please reply to this..........
So I already seen it still Dr Handsfield has always said that its not new news to anyone regular here
I will not repeat myself on this thread again
Until the guidelines are changed 3 months is still conclusive
I just read in the expert forum 5 minutes ago where Dr. Handsfeld says that a standard antibody test at 6 weeks is conclusive and the 3 month recommendation is outdated.
No matter what 3 months is conclusive 6 weeks is a better idea of your status BUT you must follow that result with a final conclusive test I have told you to CALM down seek help if you cant seem to get your fears under control
