I maintain that you aren't at any risk for HIV at all. I only suggested testing because it seems clear that you are not you are able to accept that- you would only need a test for psychological support not because of any risk. If you need the assurance of a 3 month result then test at 3 months. I have nothing more to say on this and will no longer be contributing to this thread.
well testing right now wouldn't make much sense because of the fact six weeks hasn't passed since my last encounter. do you think because she is on antiretoviral medication for the past 3 yrs makes it even harder for me to get infected ? added to the fact that i always use condoms, do you think the odds are in my favor ? i know what consistent use of condoms entail , but i sometime wonder if i use them correct, once the condom stays on for the entire period of sex and doesn't slip off or break that means it was used correct right ? do you think a six week test after my last encounter with the nindividual can be considered conclusive?
It's because of the way the data is collected and the fact that on a population level people don't always do what they say they will. The investigators are obviously not observing people in the bedroom so they have to take people's word that they are using condoms consistently and correctly. But people have been known to lie in studies like that to avoid the embarrassment of admitting that they did not comply with the instructions. That's the difference between biological effectiveness and 'use' effectiveness. On an individual level, condoms are 100% biologically effective if they remain intact. On a population level, the use effectiveness is about 90% because there are always people who don't use them consistently and correctly.
If you used condoms consistently then you have nothing to worry about. But if you continue to feel uncertain about your status then I suggest that you just get tested instead of wasting time searching the internet for information. You are only going to find information that fuels your anxiety.
Hello joggen , i was doing some research and found a study that was done where 121 couple where one hiv positive where they used condoms at all times with no failure but three out of the 121 became infected , how could this be ? it leaves you to wonder if the condoms really protects , how did these people become infected when they used condom consistant and correct?
Thanks joggen , i think i will trust your advice it makes sense. and you seem very informed as well as very understanding. Thanks for the advice and from now on i'll try to take control of my very critical mind.
can you tell me what constitute properly used condoms ? the reason i am so worried joggen is because i am getting all sorts of strange fellings , for instance my mouth feels very hot , all my teeth hurts i have a dry cough and i feel as if i am having an internal fever, i know fever spells trouble in that my body is trying to fight off a virus, i haven't had a fever since i was a little child so why now ? i really think i may have caught the virus.
I just scanned through your posting history. It seems that your mind is coming up with all sorts of "what ifs" because you had sex with an HIV positive partner. Let me tell you something: in the real world, "what ifs" do not happen. However you describe your situation, you did not put yourself at risk for HIV. There have been a number of studies in serodiscordant couples (one partner positive the other negative) who used condoms for vaginal or anal sex that have shown that HIV transmission doesn't occur when a condom is used. Your doctor obviously does not keep up with the latest studies, but beyond that fact we try not to debate other sources of information.
Vaginal secretions don't seep into properly used condoms. This isn't something that you should worry about. Nobody has ever been infected with HIV through protected sex. HIV is very difficult to transmit even under 'perfect' conditions- the average frequency of transmission of UNPROTECTED sex is 1 in 2000 exposures. If a condom is used then the risk is zero.
Good night folks , today i visited my doctor and told him about my concern with condoms and vaginal secretion being able to infect after it seeps into the condom from the base , he told me that vaginal secretion can get into the condom from the base if it is lose fitting and work its way to the tip of the penis when penetration is taking place and cause infection , i hope he's wrong about this , i know you guys are experts in this field but with the conflicting answers i recieved i dont know who to believe and i'm going crazy. Even if this secretion gets into the condom and manages to reach the tip of the penis would the virus still be able to infect me as it is out of the host ?
Nothing will seep into the condom if used correctly and is the right size.If the condom didn,t slip off or break, you never had a risk and don,t require testing.
