what are the risk of protected exposure in high risk times?

what are the risk of protected exposure in high risk times?

I fear I got HIV!!?? please help. I know my complete sexual history, and always get checked after each experience, and for most of my life have engaged in very low risk activity. I am also young and very healthy and never sick.

I recently engaged sexually with a prostitute in Vietnam. It is a high risk area, and she worked in Ho Chi Minh, the most at risk area. The sex was completely protected. besides for some very light kissing, and a few testicle licks by her (condom used durig oral), everything was protected. I did notice she did have to be what were purplish lesions on her knee and arm, but they were small, and i've noticed women tend to suffer from easy brusing, etc. but who knows.

anyways, upon return (5 days after event), I developed extreme fatigue, loss of apetitie, swollen lymph nodes, sensitivity of extremeties, sore eyes, slight fever, and a very mid level sore throat. I got a full std test, but I know it may not show the important results like HIV and Herpes. I have no sores, and no itching in general, so i'm not thinking syphillis (syphilis) or herpes. I could use any help. i'm totally anxious. My whole body just feels so drained, total virus flu like symptoms, but very generalized and not overly intense, but intense enough to feel like actue hiv symptoms. indeed. they keep coming on more and more. I'm sleeping 14 hours a day.

what else could it be? like I said, I couldn't have been safer, and the condoms never broke and were very good american bought condoms. I guess my question is, what are the risks of having very safe and protected sex with a very at risk sex worker? Everything seemed fine, but she definitely gave me SOMETHING, so if she could give me something, couldn't she give me HIV as easily as the clap or Ghonorhea? The whole thing seemed clean though, washed before and after, not much discharge for both parties, no blood, please help any advice or experience with this. i'd never had an std, so I have no ideas here.

if it was protected then it is protected as long as you remember u used a latex condom and it did not break then hiv risk 0. I have been to vietnam and I got really sick myself after eating some of the food and the wether there since I was not used to it, i ate viet food b4 here in the US but somehow I got sick overthere, no food poisoning or anything like that when went to hospital but had a slight fever close to 100 and stomachache, and i had no sexual contact when i was there so hiv was ruled out. Hope this help

I don't see any risk.

I believe there's no reason for you to think that you're infected, you can't get infected like that.

Please take some time to read about transmission and realize that your fears are irrational.

I don't think it's the food. How long does it take for HepA or Hep B to start. they can't come on this fast? surprisingly I drank lots of tap water and ate various food and had not ONE problem. This entire feeling started about 24 hours after I returned to the states.

I also forgot to mention that I think she was an IDU, she seemed to have an injection mark on her arm, but I confronted her very politely to see if she did drugs or heroine, and she seemed to dismiss it, although she may not have understood, although it could've as easily have been where she had blood drawn for any test. It was only in one area. but the IDU like injection mark and hte purple lesions make me fear she was infected, which makes the likelihood of that speading to me much greater.

How about saliva transmission? could she have accidentally bitten my testicles too hard and created a wound that her saliva could then infect?

again, I was so good and healthy until this direct experience with this girl, which has since with no other exposure led to these symptoms.

so basically even if she was totally HIV positive, the chances of sweat, saliva, etc affecting me through other body cavities besides direct sexual contact is almost non existant???

I did read it can be trasmitted (rarely) through bite, and she did bite too hard on my testicles, but overall there didn't seem to be blood or gashes of any kind, and I didn't have any open wounds.

"The sex was completely protected. besides for some very light kissing, and a few testicle licks by her (condom used durig oral), everything was protected"

Assuming,she was HIV Positive

1. Protected Sex = NO STD (including HIV) & Pregnancy
2. Kissing = NO RISK ( saliva contains sugar proteins that eliminates HIV)
3. Testicle Licks = NO RISK (Saliva doesn't contain HIV)
4. Even if she had bit you = NO RISK (she needed to have blood in her mouth and that was required to contact your wound, too complicated)

Conclusion: Total No Risk event, which does not even warrant testing.

Move on, mate !

thanks.....for the words. I still think routine testing is good though. hehe. but yeah, i'll calm down.

it's just weird to get such viral symptoms right after sex with someone that seemed infected. what other sicknesses could this be, std? could it just be that my immunity changed when I went to vietnam, and coming back I got some north american viral infection that formed while I was gone?

Lets say,if you did not have this experience with the sex worker there, would you be worrying about what's happening to you ?

I'm sure you'd have considered it like 'just another viral infection' treated it and moved on, that's what required here.

Routine check up is a great idea, go ahead however I'd ask you not to panic since I can guarantee you that a 'non reactive / negative' result's awaiting you.

I agree with what Mike has said.  With the protection that you used you are fine.  The only thing I would advise is that you stay away from sex with pros.  Just ask Mike, condoms break and you never know when something like that may go wrong.  You did the right thing by using protection.  I commend you for that. The next time you want to have sex with a pro, remember how horrible you feel right now and evaluate whether or not it is worth going through that again.  HIV is not an issue for you based on this exposure.  Relax and learn from your experience.
